Resetting hp ink cartridges after refilling
Not sure who needs to see this but I figured how to to refill and use HP printer after the cartridge was detected as empty. This was tested multiple times with hp office jet 6600 but might work with any HP printer. Multiple points to note: Make sure you use HP original ink cartridges, since this procedure will not work with third party cartridges that were detected as empty. Fill the HP ink cartridges that were detected as empty, fully (I was using bottles bought cheaply in amazon) Put the cartridges back into printer. Find out how to go to manufacturers reset options for your printer. For 6600 it was something like double back button and double home button and then double back button or something. in reset menu, go to reset options, then do OOBE reset. Follow prompts until printer tries to do alignment. At this step printer will really see if there is ink. If it detects ink, it will show '?' mark for that cartridge and allows printing. If any of the cartridges does not have enough ink, the alignment is stopped. OOBE reset resets one cartridge at a time. If you have multiple cartridges with ink shown as empty, you need to repeat step 5 again. So, use original hp empty cartridges, fill ink to absolutely full, do OOBE reset and repeat until all empty cartridges shows ? mark. You can continue printing until the ink level becomes low enough for it. Then you have to fill it fully and do OOBE reset again because even if the cartridge has ink, it has to be over certain level atleast for my printer to recognize it, if not alignment will be attempted and still results in empty cartridge error. Try doing a "Power Cleaning" (in Maintenance). It will refill the lines to the printer head. You can reset ink levels but that just gives you information. It doesn't affect performance. It can be found under "Maintenance" also. Please post if it works. Also if you need to clean heads. I learned the hard way that you should run a test print through the printer at least once a week to prevent clogging. More on reddit.com

August 9, 2024HP have updated their printers to outright ban ‘non-HP’ ink! They no longer shows the “can’t guarantee quality” message, but instead cancels your print completely until you inset a HP ink cartridge. After contacting HP, they advised “this is due to the recent ‘update’ of all printers”
A manufacturer cannot remove functionality you've paid for, legally. They're probably not deploying this in the EU, but I hope someone raises a stink. I'll never buy an HP printer. I'm not risking them fucking me over, ever. More on reddit.com

I have a 6030 envy all in one printer, and I have 2 cartridges one is original and the other is a 3rd party one.
I refilled the original and it asked me if it's used before I said yes but the ink level didn't go to full after that, and now it's showing that ink is almost finished.
the 3rd party one is immune to this problem since the printer doesn't even read the ink level but doesn't print as good as the original in best quality mode. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello, These cartridges cannot be reset. Think of them as a 1 time use memory chip. Once they read empty, they will always read empty in any printer (that's why the after-market one doesn't read anything... it's a refilled original). My advice, if you want to maximize the longevity of these carts, use them regularly and refill carefully. When inserting your syringe, angle it at a 45-degree angle towards the back of the cartridge and only fill it with an approx. 3ml of ink max (black cartridge specific). There is an absorption pad between the sponge and the printhead. If you overfill, the pad will be over-saturated and leak through the printhead causing poor flow/bad quality prints. Also, if you puncture that pad just a little bit, you will have the same issue. If you have a small kitchen scale that uses grams, weigh it before filling and remember that 1ml is approx 1gm. If your first weighing/filling works well, make a note of the filled weight and just use that as a guide for future fills. The tricolour cartridge is the same as everything mentioned above, except there are 3 chambers to fill, and you want to use approx. 2ml per colour and be very careful with your fill angle.. just insert slowly and aim/angle towards the back as best as you can and fill slowly. Good luck- these cartridges also just fail regularly and you will eventually need to replace them. Originals IMO are best if you're filling because YOU will know the history of the cart.
