Depending on whether battery life or performance is more important, you can adjust the power settings so that it doesn't throttle the CPU speed quite as much. It will run a little warmer in general though. Make sure you're running 64-bit software ( applications and games) whenever possible. If you use 32-bit software it will have to do a lot more page swapping of memory because it's generally limited to 2 GB per process. Add more ram if you don't have at least 16 GB (assuming the laptop supports that much). If it isn't using an SSD already, install one instead of the spinning hard drive. Depending on what you mean by streaming you might have better speed and reliability with a gigabit ethernet (GbE) network interface and a physical ethernet cable to your router/network switch. WiFi network connections rarely achieve their max theoretical performance and sometimes you may have a have a weak signal and/or lots of interference.
