  1. If nothing there helps then go over Windows using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

  1. Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware using HP Support Assistant, or manually by using Serial Number here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

  1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, is the most stable method to advance to the latest version, and solves most problems. Tutorial here: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/fix-windows...
  2. Run HP hardware diagnostics by powering on while pressing the ESC key:then F2 do the long tests.

One of these steps should do it so take your time and don't skip any, ask back if you need help.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions. Please report back results for all steps given so I know what else to suggest if necessary.

HP Omen 30l GT13-0024 black screen in games
For my birthday party 3 days ago, my dad got me an HP Omen 30l GT13-0024. I just recently found out there is no warranty on it because someone returned it to BestBuy. The computer seems to work fine at first glance, but if I am playing games, it… More on learn.microsoft.com

Omen 30L, yet another black screen crashing post
Posting here as I experienced the same issue with my HP30L rtx3090 build, first pre-build I ever owned bought during covid component draught as it had great specs for the price. Sadly the black screen issues weren't noticed until after warranty had expired as I was mainly using the desktop for work. Problem: Crash to black screen during gaming / intense load usually within 20 min. "No signal" on screen (single monitor), RGB lights still and fans going full speed. Sometimes sound continues in the background, sometimes not. Hard reboot was only option to restart the PC. - Temps were usally high, but nothing too extreme.- dmw.exe crash errors in EventViewer I tried: - Updating all drivers - Making sure all internal cables were fully connected - Reseating GPU and adding custom mount to prevent potential sag - Replacing stock fans and adding 2 more for improved air flow - Replacing thermal paste (did wonders for CPU temp but nothing to resolve the issue) - Disabling and preventing almost any unneccesary programs or background processes to be running during gaming - Messing with nvidia settings, windows power settings, monitor settings, in game settings (lower graphics, resolution) etc... - Using HWiNFO64 to set up logging every 1 min to monitor temps and power consumtion, see sample from latest crash below Time | CPU Temp | GPU Temp | GPU Power | 11:49:15 | 76 °C | 59.9 °C | 213 | 11:50:15 | 79 °C | 62.3 °C | 246 | 11:51:15 | 81 °C | 72.7 °C | 257 - and basically all potential fixes you could find on various forums except replacing any of the components Given everything I tested I suspected the GPU or the PSU were to blame and had to be replaced. As I am using my desktop for work and it never crashes during low/medium load I decided to just wait until I had time off to borrow a similar GPU from a friend to test. Then I happened to come upon the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnRyyCsuHFQ&t=1432s TLDR: Modern GPUs are prone to consume 3-4x listed power consumtion in sudden spikes which will be very demanding on your PSU depending on specs. This was not captured in my logging as I only monitored every 1 minute and these spikes apparently happen in a fraction of a second... The (temporary) fix that worked for me: I downloaded MSI Afterburner and set the "Power Limit %" to 80 (don't forget to apply!). This was about two weeks ago and I haven't had any black screens since. I have not tested increasing the power limit to find the ideal spot as I only play less demaning games in 2k with a 144hz monitor so I still can manage everything on Ultra with sufficient fps. My current plan is to replace the 750w PSU with a 1000w PSU from a reputable brand to see if this permanently resolved the issue without gimping my system through 3rd party software. Hope this post will save someone from a lot of headache. If you experience these issues and are still under warranty I would try to RM'a the GPU as soon as possible to hopefully get one less prone to power spikes. More on reddit.com

OMEN 30L Won’t boot up. Monitors keyboard and mouse will not light up.
When you turn a PC on it runs a power-on-self-test. It's not posting... something physical is going wrong, so the test never completes, so it doesn't start to load things. Any bad componant can cause this. Figuring out which piece is bad is a process of elimination. You mentioned removing the RAM. Is there any difference if you try to start it without any RAM, like beeping or a a diagnostic light? Since RAM is easiest, I usually tell people to try starting with just one stick of RAM, and if that doesn't work remove it and put in a different stick or RAM into a different slot (in case it's a bad channel). If it acts the same it's probably not the RAM. If you have onboard video, try removing your GPU and starting it up that way. Even if you don't have onboard, you may try starting without it to see if there's an error (beeping or diagnostic lights). The power supply may not be working right. You'd want to put in a different one to see if that works. And of course it could be the processor, or motherboard. Basically, it's a matter of removing and/or replacing things until you figure out which componant is causing the problem. More on reddit.com

Here are the things I've done so far:

  • Updated Windows.
  • Made sure NVIDIA Drivers were up to date.
  • Changed link state power management to OFF.
  • Got rid of any Bloatware.
  • Used System File Checker, nothing out of the ordinary.
  • Disabled any services in the System Configuration Utility that looked out-of-place. (Only one was McAfee, I ended up removing it completely.)
  • Ran a full scan with Malwarebytes, nothing out of the ordinary.
  • Updated the BIOS.
    • After doing this and rebooting, the fans are now noticeable, I can hear them spinning usually, and the computer is no longer slow when it first starts up.

I am currently running the sfc /scannow command, but so far, there have been absolutely no fixes. The only time I've noticed a difference is when I lowered my resolution from 2560 x 1440 to 1920 x 1080. I'm not entirely sure why this changed anything. But I will describe the changes I noticed:

  • Previously, when trying to run 7 Days to Die, the game would give a black screen either immediately or within 3 seconds.
    • After switching the resolution, I could run it for about 3 minutes, I then ended up closing the game. I am not sure how long it would have actually ran.
  • Previously, when I tried to load up an RTX world on the Windows 10 Edition of Minecraft, it would crash as soon as the world loaded, or within a second.
    • When the resolution is changed AND I'm in windowed mode, it works, but if I press the windows key, (I did this to try and take a screenshot with windows + shift + s) it gives me the black screen.

As of typing this, the sfc command is at 60% verification of the system scan. I will update you on that when it finishes.

OMEN Laptop BIOS Update Failure: Black Screen and CMOS Reset... - HP Support Community - 9192837
October 16, 2024 - After more trial and error, I was finally able to start the BIOS update. However, I first had to disconnect the battery and both drives (M.2 SSD and SSD). Additionally, the WIN + V key combination didn’t work this time. Instead, I had to use WIN + B to get the system to read the USB flash drive, which at least caused the HP Omen logo to appear, but nothing else happened.

r/HPOmen on Reddit: Omen 30L, yet another black screen crashing post
July 14, 2022 -

So I bought a 30L with the 5800X and 3080 a couple months ago. And, like a good number of people, I'm having trouble with crashes. Just running Rocket League, maybe 5-10 minutes in the screen will suddenly go black and the monitor will say "no signal". Sound cuts out as well.

The lights on the PC stay on, as well as the fans (though they aren't running full blast at this point, typically). The keyboard lights up as well, which means that it's detecting that it's connected to the PC.

At first, I thought it was a power issue. I unplugged the computer from the power strip it was in and instead plugged it directly into the wall. This seemed to fix the issue for a few weeks. Maybe it was just a coincidence though because lately it's gotten worse, can't get through a game of Rocket League today.

Temperature issue is possible as well, but frankly my components aren't running that hot when it happens. Here is a text file of GPU-Z output right up to the moment of the latest crash. GPU at 60.7 C, hot spot of 73.6C. CPU temp of 74.6C. Running benchmarks I get temperatures well above those and it seems just fine (although I guess I haven't run the benchmarks for longer than 5 minutes).

So I don't think it's a cooling issue.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Edit: i sent it in and they replaced the GPU, that resolved the issue for me.

r/HPOmen on Reddit: HP Omen Obelisk Desktop Stuck on Omen logo or black screen fix
September 16, 2024 -

I have seen quite a few people run into this issue with the HP o men Desktop 25l, 30L, and similar. I ran into it myself just this past week on my 875-1023, wth a Shire Motherboard.. Prior to this happening, I was getting a 90D Temp too high error every time I booted up, along with a Corrupted CMOS error, but HP support gave me nothing on the tech support boards and I had just gone out of warranty when the issues started. Last week I rebooted the system for a Nvidia graphics update, at first it showed just an Omen logo for over an hour, but the screen was weird, like the background was 800x600 or something. I force powered it down, then it came up with just a black screen. No error beeps, my TV did recognize a signal from my RTX, but that is all I knew. I tried everything I could find with no luck, then I tried a few things at random and got it working, no more CMOS issues, and reboots have gone perfectly..

The fix:

I got a USB keyboard, as I was using a wireless Logitech MX key and mouse. I held done the windows key and the B key, then I also pressed and held the power button, until it started beeping, I waited for it to finish, then let go. The CMOS reset screen came up, where it resets the bios. Now this is just a reset, but it starts the process, because as far as I can understand, the Shire motherboards, like mine, and many other similar HP boards have multiple CMOS/BIOS systems, in case one gets corrupted and can't repair itself. This time I got a display, got an overheated warning, I got a corrupted CMOS warning, etc. but when it tried to load Windows, I got a DXGKRNL.sys error or something, and neither the auto repairs or attempts at booting worked, just blue screened. I tried getting into BIOS/CMOS settings, but even when I did, the system shut off after a few seconds.

After a day of messing around, my eyes kept getting dragged to 3 pins on the side, by where the WIFI card lugs in, and where the Graphics car power would plugin, same side of the board where the 24 pin atx power plugs in. The pins look like this, and I have enlarged the labels.

I know these systems have dual CMOS, and I was thinking that EBB# might have been a way to do that. The other 2 had no effect. So, I plugged a jumper onto pins 5-6, when I turned it on it started beeping right away, then the notice that it was rewriting the CMOS popped up, it did that, rebooted and verified, the bios, after this, when it reboots, yank that jumper off, or it will keep doing it. Finally, it loaded up with no temp error or corruption messages, Windows booted perfectly. I have rebooted it a few times with no issues. I hope this helps someone. .

I restarted my PC earlier today. (I installed xbox360ce to use my logitech wheel today) and had to restart my pc when this happened. My keyboard and mouse stay off and my monitors detect input but won’t show anything.

What i’ve tried:

Removing ram and trying different slots

Removing the BIOS battery and replacing it

Specs i know of:

AMD Ryzen 7

Geforce RTX 2060

Any help would be appreciated and if you have questions about other specs or would like to see something inside the pc please let me know, thanks.

Wow, how weird. I have the exact same computer, having the exact same issue. I have been a part of multiple MSP helpdesk teams over the last 5 years, and I have NEVER seen a computer do this before. I have tried EVERYTHING and no dice..... I'm at the point of considering taking it to get repaired somewhere (words I thought I would never say). The timing seems odd though, considering that your post is only 25 days at the time of writing this comment. I wonder if HP put out a faulty BIOS update that is causing this. Did you ever find a fix?

August 25, 2024 -

This is something of a hail mary since I've already browsed so many posts on this issue, but I thought it was worth a shot. I have an HP Omen 30L (Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3070) and I've started to get the black screen issue. When starting any game at all, both monitors go black losing all input, and never regaining it until I force restart the PC. The sound will still play and the computer stays on when this occurs.

I bought the PC in 2021 and never had issues until I downloaded runescape a few weeks ago. The first time I tried playing it, the crash occurred, and now it occurs for every game. Game clients and loading screens are fine, but once I get to anything rendered, it crashes instantly, no matter how undemanding the game. Temps are quite low since it happens before anything graphically intensive can happen.

I've tried:

  • Updating drivers (GPU and CPU)

  • Updating BIOS

  • Upgrading to Windows 11

  • Tweaking dozens of settings in the Nvidia control panel based on other threads

  • Undervolting/clocking in MSI afterburner

  • Reducing power limit in MSI afterburner

  • Removing Microsoft GameInput

  • Checked power pins going into GPU

    • I've tried checking the connection from the GPU to the motherboard, but the screw in the GPU bracket/mount thing holding it in is so tight I'm having issues unscrewing it without stripping the screw.

I was wondering if anyone had ideas of what might be going on and if anything else might be worth trying. The GPU might just be dead, but the timing of it occurring with the very first play of runescape.

r/HPOmen on Reddit: HP Omen 16 blank screen after BIOS update
July 20, 2024 -

Context: I installed the BIOS onto my USB flash drive, then turned the computer off and performed the BIOS update using Win + B and pressing the power button. The BIOS screen shows up (though it's a CLI black screen, not the usual blue HP screen I see when performing a BIOS update). After the BIOS update finishes, it restarts the laptop, and the screen becomes blank, but the laptop is running I can hear the fan running.

What I have tried but doesn't work:

  • Win + B or Win + V then pressing the power button (removed all attachments from the laptop)

  • Using the same USB that has the BIOS installed and performing Win + B then pressing the power button

  • Holding and pressing the power button for 1 minute then starting the laptop

  • Removing the battery from the laptop, plugging the AC adapter into the laptop, and performing the solutions I tried above.

Nothing works. Strangely this behavior seems to happen when I do BIOS update. I have had this issue before but not sure or remember what fixed the problem.

Model: HP Omen 16

r/HPOmen on Reddit: HP Omen 30L no screens, no USBs, and stuck on white light for RGB.
August 5, 2025 -

I woke up today to this issue. When I turn the PC on, it doesn't give me anything on either of my monitors or even my TV. On top of that, none of my USBs are receiving power and my RGB appears to be stuck on white.

I looked around the subreddit and tried doing this already

  1. Unplugged and held the power button down for 30 secs to cycle power out

  2. Reseated RAM

  3. Unplugged the GPU from the motherboard and plugged it back in

I've run out of ideas to try and get anything to show on screen so I can go from there. Any ideas? I appreciate it 🙏

December 20, 2023 - Tried Win+B, and got my hopes up as it seemed to be doing the BIOS rollback and the screen did light up, although it was just "noise" or "snow" whenever the text was supposed to appear I imagine, but after that, back to the black screen and boot up to the Windows login screen (SOUND ONLY).
