HI Caiden. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

Best Buy may be able to avoid 15 day return policy if was an open box and they disclosed it, but the PC manufacturer' cannot avoid the one year full Support, Service and Replacement Warranty that all new hardware comes with under law.

So keep in mind that at any time you can conctact HP Support and if they try to sell you up, tell them you just want basic warranty service under the law.

Report back results as you go so I know what else to suggest.

  1. If nothing there helps then go over Windows using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

  1. Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware using HP Support Assistant, or manually by using Serial Number here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

  1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, is the most stable method to advance to the latest version, and solves most problems. Tutorial here: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/fix-windows...
  2. Run HP hardware diagnostics by powering on while pressing the ESC key:then F2 do the long tests.

One of these steps should do it so take your time and don't skip any, ask back if you need help.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions. Please report back results for all steps given so I know what else to suggest if necessary.

r/HPOmen on Reddit: HP Omen 30l desktop turns on but monitor is black and peripherals aren’t receiving power
May 16, 2021 -

Hello,

I just bought a new HP omen desktop a couple days ago and it’s been running great until last night. All the desktop lights will turn on but the display is black and my mouse and keyboard don’t receive power at all.

Tried unplugging it and hard resetting it already and still nothing. Haven’t even touched it or anything since yesterday morning when it was working.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Specs: Ryzen 7 5800x, 16gb ram, 3060ti, 750w power supply

Here are the things I've done so far:

  • Updated Windows.
  • Made sure NVIDIA Drivers were up to date.
  • Changed link state power management to OFF.
  • Got rid of any Bloatware.
  • Used System File Checker, nothing out of the ordinary.
  • Disabled any services in the System Configuration Utility that looked out-of-place. (Only one was McAfee, I ended up removing it completely.)
  • Ran a full scan with Malwarebytes, nothing out of the ordinary.
  • Updated the BIOS.
    • After doing this and rebooting, the fans are now noticeable, I can hear them spinning usually, and the computer is no longer slow when it first starts up.

I am currently running the sfc /scannow command, but so far, there have been absolutely no fixes. The only time I've noticed a difference is when I lowered my resolution from 2560 x 1440 to 1920 x 1080. I'm not entirely sure why this changed anything. But I will describe the changes I noticed:

  • Previously, when trying to run 7 Days to Die, the game would give a black screen either immediately or within 3 seconds.
    • After switching the resolution, I could run it for about 3 minutes, I then ended up closing the game. I am not sure how long it would have actually ran.
  • Previously, when I tried to load up an RTX world on the Windows 10 Edition of Minecraft, it would crash as soon as the world loaded, or within a second.
    • When the resolution is changed AND I'm in windowed mode, it works, but if I press the windows key, (I did this to try and take a screenshot with windows + shift + s) it gives me the black screen.

As of typing this, the sfc command is at 60% verification of the system scan. I will update you on that when it finishes.
