Hold your horses. I know a way to get around HP Smart and to use the printer offline. If your dad unfortunately bought a model with the letter "e" at the end, tough luck. Those literally require internet for HP+ and knockoff cartridges will likely never work in them. Go to support.hp.com, Drivers, type in your exact model, choose your correct OS in case they guessed it wrong, scroll all the way down past the HP Shart ad, dig in the menu until you'll find the basic driver package. Sometimes they also call it "for IT professionals only" or "offline". Download that. Meanwhile, go ahead and uninstall HP Shart and remove the printer in Windows Settings. Give the PC a reboot for good luck and run the installer. Your reward will be a complete printer driver, with scanning (no HP account required), with almost zero extra bloat like HP Shart is.
