H I'm having this issue which is extremly annoying.
One of our customers just bought a new HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 printer. They're hosted on our RDS environment (Server 2016). I've installed the printer through the control panel by adding it as a TCP/IP device, I then downloaded the driver package (.inf) and chose the 9010 series driver and everything was good - the printer prints at least...
However on the server they're running a piece of medical software with a scan capability build in. However in order for this part of the software to work it apparently needs the HP Twain Driver.
I've searched far and wide and I stumbled upon this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05300654
HP states that I can look up the TWAIN driver by searching for the printer in drivers and support.. However this is not the case at all.. I've also tried downloading the full driver package but when runnig it I'm just told that the software isn't supported on Windows server 2016.
I even tried installing the HP basic driver through msiexec by following this guide:
https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c03351547
However this did not add any TWAIN driver..
I'm kinda lost at the moment and I'm looking for further ideas to solve this ..
I’ve been using the HP Universal Twain driver software for scanning over the network with laserjet and officejet printers. (The printers are deployed from a windows server using the deployed printers)
However, I’ve been finding it to be hit-or-miss when it comes to printer models that it will actually work with.
For instance, I can’t seem to get the software to connect with officejet pro 6830, officejet pro 8610, officejet pro LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw, even though each printer has the webscan feature enabled.
Printers that it does work with:
- officejet 6970, 8020
- laserjet pro MFP M426fdw, M246fdn
- Color laserjet pro MFP M281fdw
The M225dw has the same older UI as the M281, so I’m not sure why the M225 wouldn’t work.
The 6830 uses the same newer UI as in the 6970, so I’m not sure why the 6830 wouldn’t work.
Is there a compatibility page somewhere listing what printers it does or doesn’t work with?
On the documentation page, it looks like only 3 devices are listed as incompatible, and I don’t have anything even close to those product families: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05300654
For reference, the MFP Network Twain Scan Package 1.0.683 can be downloaded here under the basic drivers section: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-enterprise-mfp-m725-series/5197860
I will give you kudos. I have never gotten the HP Universal Print Driver to work properly. Is there a reason you don’t simply use the driver for that particular printer instead? I have multiple print drivers on my print server and have no issues. I know they recommend using a universal driver, but the only ones I have got to work properly are Xerox and Konica Minolta UPD.
