May 27, 2024 - Does it have to be a book? https://developer.mozilla.org/ is a very solid resource and has a lot of guides and tutorials. ... Been told a couple times this is great for web development. Seconded ... MDN is the only place I would recommend as a resource. Its accurate, current, and well written Continue this thread ... https://www.w3schools.com/ is also an excellent resource for css/html (I use mdn for JavaScript reference, but w3 might be just as good)

I want to read a javascript book that will allow me to understand it completely so i could jump to a framework, what would you recommend?
If you don’t know JavaScript then I would not pursue a framework until you do. I made this mistake years ago when I really wanted to learn React. I jumped right into React thinking “well I have used other languages, this cannot be that difficult.” As soon as I came across arrow functions (relatively new at the time) I was screwed. I had no idea what I was doing and had to backup and learn JavaScript. I recommend learning JavaScript first so you understand: How the framework syntax works. For instance, destructuring arrays and objects is a large part of React (state and props) and Redux (also state and props). If you don’t know about that or why using an arrow function can be beneficial within a React class and several other intricacies, you aren’t going to have a fun time learning React or another framework. If you do manage to get an app working, you won’t fully understand what is going on and debugging will be difficult. Learning and using vanilla JS will quickly make you understand WHY you would even want to use a framework and also what it is doing for you. Frameworks still require knowledge of DOM manipulation which you learn from vanilla JS Frameworks usually heavily incorporate new JavaScript features or some abstraction of a feature. Therefore to understand the framework feature, you will need to know the underlying ESNEXT principles. Relating to the above, as JavaScript changes, the framework of your choice will follow suit AGAIN implementing changes based on how JS has changed. Essentially, if you truly want to learn a framework, you will be forced to understand vanilla JavaScript at some point. If you don’t learn it, you are going to have a really difficult time and will be lost as things move forward. Currently I professionally work on a code base written in React version 0.12.2 the current version of React is 16.13 (which I use on my personal projects and a different project for the same company). The two versions are completely different and the syntax has changed drastically. The underlying driving factor is that JavaScript has changed. If I were the dev that wrote the project in React 0.12 and never worked on my JavaScript skills again. I would have a really difficult time working in React 16+ and if I did get something to work, it probably wouldn’t be good code. Learn vanilla JavaScript and keep learning vanilla JavaScript. Frameworks come and go and you can absolutely and probably should pickup a framework, but only after you are very comfortable with vanilla JS. More on reddit.com

Converting a series of html files to an ePub book?
You can create an empty epub file from the "add books" menu. Counterintuitively, select "add empty books (Book entry with no formats)" and then at the bottom of the window that pops up there will be a place where you can tell Calibre to create an empty epub file. Then, using Calibre's epub editor, you can import HTML files into the epub. More on reddit.com
