February 25, 2025 - CPU-Z, GPU-Z and Core Temp all have their uses but HWinfo tends to have it all laid out in a more convenient fashion so you can usually see what one sensor is reporting while looking at another instead of having to flip through various tabs that have specific groupings, plus, it is extremely rare for HWinfo to not report the correct sensor values under the correct sensor listings, or misreport other information. Utilities like HWmonitor, Openhardware monitor and Speccy, tend to COMMONLY misreport sensor data, or not report it at all.
CPU temperatures and a bit of confusion about HWMonitor
Your core temps are what is important. Those are quite high. A stock cooler should be fine unless you're over clocking. Either you have an air flow issue in your case or there something wrong with paste/seating if the cooler. Or perhaps a fan. Tell us about your case fans, how many and how they are setup. Is the CPU fan working? Does it go faster when the CPU gets hot? Is it plugged into the CPU fan header on the mobo More on reddit.com

Hello PCMR. I usually lurk around here more than post but right now I'm a bit baffled and I need some help.
I'm not sure if my CPU is running too hot or not and I can't really find any definitive answer by googling around.
Intel specs tell me that the safe CPU temp is 72 C and but I'm not sure what temperature exactly is that.

I've had it on to monitor my temps for a good time now and I'm wondering, does the 72 C limit mean the cores or the CPU socket which have never even reached 70 C. (Since CPU itself always show constant 60 C I'm assuming that there's no actual sensor in there).
My CPU core temps usually hover around 70-76 C under load but they can occasionally jump up all the way to 90 celsius and it's a bit worrysome.
I do use the stock cooler and I'm in a financial situation where I can't really afford to buy new CPU at least quite yet so I'd like to keep on playing all the new games, especially since I got new GTX 970 couple of months back, but I'm a bit afraid that I'll run my CPU down.
So PCMR, since there's a lot more tech savvy guys here, can anyone tell me if I should be worried and start to take some steps or if I'm good to continue playing as is.

Or would you recommend a different program altogether? Please provide an explanation so I know why you're recommending one software over the other.
I just upgraded to a Legion Pro 7i (Gen 8), but I used to use a HP Omen 15, so I'm used to monitoring temperature through the Omen Command Center.

HWinfo is generally recommended as a monitoring tool. It supports just about any kind of sensor your laptop has to offer, and shows min/max/current for each one so you can get an idea of the range of values. You can also choose to turn sensors into a graph so you can see the values over time.

MSI afterburner+riva statistics. I also had an omen before the legion. I was shocked about the temps but for AMD its normal behaviour. Boost to max temp and stay there Omen Hub equivalent is Lenovo vantage btw. its nearly the same but more features, if you want you can also use Lenovo Legion Toolkit instead of vantage.
