r/overclocking on Reddit: PSA: STOP USING HWMONITOR. USE HWINFO64 AT ALL TIMES. REFER TO EFFECTIVE CLOCKS. That is all.
February 7, 2023 - I've been saying this for like 10 years now but for some reason jayztwocents and his fan boys won't give up on hwmonitor no matter how shit it is. I've talked to and contributed to hwinfo64 dev directly which was never an option with hwmonitor. Overclock.net only used hwinfo64 with the dev ...

HWMonitor vs HWiNFO64 in regards to CPU Temps - Programs, Apps and Websites - Linus Tech Tips
April 29, 2019 - But I been noticing that the CPU temps are showing much higher in HWiNFO64 then HWMonitor. Which one of those two gives me accurate results? HWMonitor is showing idle temps around the 20c marks. But HWiNFO64 is showi...

r/Amd on Reddit: HWmonitor vs HWinfo - Ryzen 5000's temps monitoring
January 23, 2021 -

As the titles summs, which of those is the best for temps monitoring? Have used HWinfo before clean installing W10 and cleaning CMOS (had a bunch of errors because a I switched from 1600 AF + B450M DS3H to 5600X + B550-F Gaming (Wi-Fi), and the software always showed my clocks as 4.6GHx ot 3.2GHz, so I gave it up, but I don't really know if it was a bug from the hardware switch, so I'm asking here now, which one is better? Will not use Ryzen Master, MSI Afterburner or lowkeys software, I rather stick with one of those.

[SOLVED] - Good hardware sensor monitor? | Tom's Hardware Forum
February 5, 2020 - CPU-Z, GPU-Z and Core Temp all have their uses but HWinfo tends to have it all laid out in a more convenient fashion so you can usually see what one sensor is reporting while looking at another instead of having to flip through various tabs that have specific groupings, plus, it is extremely rare for HWinfo to not report the correct sensor values under the correct sensor listings, or misreport other information. Utilities like HWmonitor, Openhardware monitor and Speccy, tend to COMMONLY misreport sensor data, or not report it at all.

What is the software to check CPU temps? :: Hardware and Operating Systems
February 5, 2020 - HWInfo64 has so much more information available but takes a bit longer to setup on-screen display. Both will use RTSS (RivaTuner Statistics Server) for on-screen display function but you get the odd application that does not like it.

HWmonitor or HWinfo64 | Overclockers UK Forums
July 3, 2019 - I've used both of them recently to help diagnose a problem. They both seem to display very comparable results (from sensors at least). Monitor is a lot more simple, loads up quicker. If the information you want is in it, then probably easier to find. HWInfo64 has a bewildering amount of information ...

HWMonitor vs. HWInfo: Why Is My Clock Speed Different on Each? - SilverPC Blog
October 17, 2025 - For AMD Ryzen CPUs, the effective clock speed often provides a more accurate representation of the *actual work rate* the core is achieving, especially under light or bursty workloads. It’s not uncommon for HWInfo to show a lower „Effective Clock” than the „Core Clock” (or what HWMonitor shows) because it’s factoring in these incredibly brief pauses and power-saving states that happen at a microsecond level.

Question - Hwmonitor Clock speed different than HWinfo effective clock | Tom's Hardware Forum
September 11, 2023 - Two different utilities running simultaneously are unlikely to sample the clock speed of a CPU at the exact same moment and therefore will almost always report different readings. The core effective clock reading in HWInfo is the more accurate indicator of how the CPU is actually being used but neither (with one exception) are particularly useful when evaluating CPU performance for establishing PBO settings.
