The hydrogen ion (H+) is formed by the loss of an electron from the hydrogen atom, which has only one electron, and thus the hydrogen ion has no electrons. As far as I know, both ionic and covalent bonding require electrons. How then can we say that the hydronium ion exists?

A hydrogen ion , H+ is informally also called a proton. In chemistry, it is called a hydron , as are any of hydrogen's isotopes. It has a positive charge from the single proton. They do not stick around long as they are super interested in bonding with just about anything around them.
