Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Hypothyroidism occurs when your thyroid gland fails to produce sufficient thyroid hormones, essential for regulating metabolism, energy levels, and many bodily functions.
The most common cause is Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune disorder where your immune system attacks the thyroid. Other causes may include iodine deficiency, certain medications, or treatments like radiation therapy. If left untreated, hypothyroidism can lead to complications such as heart disease, depression, and infertility.
You might begin to feel better within a few weeks of starting medication, typically levothyroxine, though it can take several months to fully stabilize your hormone levels. It is crucial to take your medication as prescribed and on an empty stomach to enhance absorption.
To manage your symptoms effectively, avoid foods like soy, raw cruciferous vegetables, gluten, and processed foods, as they can interfere with thyroid function or medication absorption. Incorporating regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress management techniques is also beneficial.
Initially, your thyroid levels should be checked every six to eight weeks to adjust the dosage. Once stabilized, an annual check-up is usually sufficient. Continuous monitoring and lifestyle adjustments will help manage hypothyroidism effectively.
I hope this information helps you, and please reach out if you have any doubts.
Thank you.

Just starting treatment for hypothyroidism
I started on 50mcg tirosint w a TSH of 5. I started feeling better within a few days, quickly dropped water weight/puffiness. I’ve been on it for like 3 weeks now and I notice less joint pain, more energy, etc. I did gain a few lbs over the summer but I was already losing that weight before starting levo. I think any weight gained from hashimoto's was just water retention.
Anyways don’t be nervous! You will feel better soon
