Hi everyone,
Just purchased the 70” & 47” Besta TV units to mount on my living room wall, along with a few suspension rails for support. Little did I know that the suspension rails are not for the TV unit and the mounting brackets that came with the unit are not ideal. So here I am —
I’ve researched quite a bit on what my options are on how to properly mount. The most common seems to be anchoring a 2x4 across the wall to the studs and mount the TV unit on the 2x4. However, this wouldn’t be flush against the wall due to the 2x4. Another option would be French cleats, which could work but I just haven’t found the right mounts yet.
Lastly, I came across someone that used heavy duty L shelving brackets mounted internally in each compartment to a stud and the top/bottom of the compartment. See this video of what I mean (@ 3:52 and onwards).
I’m leaning towards the heavy duty L shelving brackets but wanted to get y’all’s take on it or if there’s another option that I didn’t come across yet. Would appreciate any advice on this, thank you!
Anyone know what type, length and thickness these wall mount screws are for the TV Beata? I bought my unit used and wasn't provided any. I was think if I should lag bolt them with 3/8" thick x 2" long bolts? This is being mounted on a party wall that's double 5/8" thick dry wall... I'm probably gonna have to anchor them too.
Any suggestions?
So I purchased the 71" (180cm) Beta TV unit with the intent of wall mounting it and using it as a TV stand. Given it is literally called TV unit and is wall mounted in all the promotional material I didn't think much of it. As later checks to reddit verify however, it is not compatible with the "Besta mounting rail." Instead you are supposed to mount it with 4 brackets on the back of the unit directly to the wall.
The problem I have with this mounting system is twofold.
-
in a frankly baffling oversight that is uncharacteristic of IKEA, the brackets are spaced at differing intervals that are not aligned with stud placement. It is not possible to hit all studs, by blind luck I might be able to hit 2/4.
-
these brackets are only affixed to the side of the unit using 0.5" screws. Not exactly bolted in.
I intend to use this as a floating TV stand. The TV stand will hold: a 65" C1, 3 speakers, a receiver and an xbox. So I want it secure. While it is far far from ideal as it would ruin the aesthetic, I have thought about running a 2x4 behind the unit to make it hit multiple studs. But this doesn't solve problem #2. Would this still be secure enough?
any one else have any experience or solutions to this problem?
I am generally trusting of Ikea build quality, but this unit really gives me pause as to if I can trust it with my electronics.
