Add a baton to your wall. Fix a baton to the back of the Bookshelf. Add a hinge or three and then fix to wall baton. Then push the bed back. Otherwise if you have fixings at the end of the bed, you can make or buy the timber forks to fit over them that screw to the headboard. Best wishes.

Hey everyone, I just joined this community as I absolutely LOVE IKEA hacks and I'm hoping I can get some help. I need to get a new bed as mine just broke. It was flimsy particle board. I have a dire need a storage space in my room so I want to finally try doing an IKEA bookcase bed. Ideally I'd make the base out of bookcases and then I want to have a bookcase headboard but I want it to be made of several bookcases vertical. Like going up to my ceiling if possible. I was wondering if anyone has ever seen anything remotely like what I'm saying? I'm not even sure if I'm explaining it right. The size I'm going for is a queen size bed. I have a piece of plywood already cut for putting on top of the bookcases making the frame.

I have a queen sized kallax bed that I made! We love it so much. I bought three of the 1-sq x 4-sq sized kallax. One of those is the foot of the bed, as it's exactly as wide as a queen bed. Then one on each side. These are slightly less than a perfect fit; they're about 8" short. You can leave this gap at either end; mine's at the head. I put backing boards on the back of each kallax, to keep the cats out of the middle. I extended the backing boards to cover the 8" gap. I thought I was going to build an extra little box to fit in there, and paint it white so it'd match, but I never did. I did stack a sentimental collection of paperbacks in there though. Because I am paranoid, I built a "stud wall" down the middle of the bed for more support underneath, but my more-experienced-carpenter spouse said it would be fine without. Ours has 3/4" plywood, which I learned is very heavy. I probably overdid that. I learned a lot in this process (also took apart and remodeled our closet). We've had family and animals sit on the bed all at the same time (approx 650 lbs) to watch a movie together, with no signs of failure; it still felt entirely stable. Way more stable than a bed with legs, TBH. You can then fill the kallax squares however you want - baskets, drawers, doors, a half shelf, books, board games, cat beds. IKEA makes so many different kinds of inserts. I put drawers in the square nearest my head for storing the kind of things people put in nightstands (then I have a very small actual nightstand for water, my phone, etc.). My spouse didn't want that, so there is an open square there. I think he has books in there- can't quite remember, and I rarely go on that side of the room lol It's been about twenty months since I built it. I didn't attach the plywood to the kallaces (plural of kallax?), nor the kallaces to each other, so sometimes I need to adjust the placement of things, realign everything. But not very often. Less often than once a month. Building this has increased the storage in our house quite noticeably- which is so great when you live in a small home!

I know what you mean! Wanted to do something similar to fit all my boardgames and puzzles but then started looking into it and found out that it would cost me more than I was willing to spend, so I just ended up buying the Mandal bed instead (which has 4 decent sized drawers).
