Its a nice looking top no doubt. As for the weight limit, looking at their website, it is 50kg not including the 9kg top. So your top being 18kg would make the effective weight limit of the desk 41kg. (I'd check with Ikea to confirm this theory) As for the commercial aspect, it would vary. First, you're dealing with people who ordered an inexpensive hand-crank desk from Ikea. These budget minded people have to want to spend the same amount or more for a custom top (in England for free shipping and outside the country for whatever additional fees). Then, they have to find you selling these nice tops. Personally I would come up with two or three common sized tops and forget the marketing towards the Ikea brand. I would advertise them as generic custom tops for sit/stand desks made of English oak. Maybe get the dimensions for the popular brand's desktops and where they position grommet holes so you can offer to match that feature when someone orders for the legs they buy. I think you're going to need a decent marketing push to make this work either way. I wish you well and hope it works out for you and your buddy. More on reddit.com

Yes, just line it up a drill some holes. The Idasen top comes pre-drilled with plastic plug in desk you can screw into. If using you own top it is simply a matter of lining top and fixing into place with some screws. More on reddit.com
