I recently heard that Ikea was planning on retiring the Detolf glass cabinet line. After calling them, they confirmed in the system that it was to be discontinued in January 2024. Does anyone know if anything similar has been announced? Are there any similar or slightly larger cabinets that people recommend?
Additionally, does anyone have any experience with detolfs or similar glass cabinets on the 2nd floor of a townhouse or house in a room that tends to get a bit hot? We used to have a few detolf cabinets but ended up having to sell them when we moved. The room they were in had a fan that we could turn on in the summer. We often had to close the door when we weren't home because of our cat. The townhouse we are currently in gets a bit hot upstairs, so we have a plugin fan, but would possibly still need to close the door. I've heard issues of some glass cabinets shattering, and just want to make sure that whatever we decide to go with would be safe to keep around animals in a hotter area of the house.

Yeah, when Ikea "discontinues" items, they sometimes bring it back worse/cheaper with a different name. This time around, they're bringing the Detolf back worse as the BLÅLIDEN . Not only that, they raised the price from $99 to $109 to $129 in the span of like 6 months, discontinue it, and then promote the new worse version at $99 to make it seem like it's cheaper while being quite a bit smaller and losing the clear glass viewing angles it had before. If you remember the Morliden doors, they replaced it with the Hogbo. In this case, it was a sidegrade, luckily not a downgrade. They killed the Tombo doors for the Besta and left it with the basic Glasvic (which has the wide bezel).

They did this once before. Rumor is they changed glass manufacturer. It’s expected they bring it back again, with some slight changes. I would highly doubt they scrap it all together.

Amazon has plenty of alternatives. Detolf’s were great when they were $59. Then they doubled the price, lowered the weight per shelf, and if you don’t live near an ikea, the shipping was ridiculous.
