Ikea Cooling Duvet Insert Review | TikTok
2 days ago - Armed with a pair of snap pliers and snaps I installed six pairs along the edges of the inserts to join in the middle - the trick is to buy two separate twin sized inserts to fit into a king sized duvet cover. The products from ikea: - stjärnbäcka (twin size) insert for me - stjärnstarr (twin size) insert for my partner - blavinda (king size) duvet cover It was a pretty quick hack to do alone - took me less than 30 min.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Help! Summer duvet: IKEA vs silk?
April 11, 2025 -

I'm looking into summer bedding for our home. I got cotton percale sheet set, cotton duvet cover, and now need a duvet insert. I want natural materials (no synthetic) and am torn between A) IKEA Fjallarnika in light warm (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/fjaellarnika-duvet-insert-light-warm-50457474/) vs B) a silk option (https://a.co/d/20cpliD ---OR--- https://www.mommesilk.com/products/copy-of-washable-cotton-covered-silk-comforter).

Does anyone have experience to share? In the hottest months here (hot & humid) everything will be thrown off, so I wouldn't mind if it had a bit of versatility, i.e., spring/summer/fall.

More info: One child sleeps hot, one does not; they share a room. For winter (gets very cold here) son has the Fjallarnika duvet insert in warm and throws it off most nights. Daughter has the Fjallbracka in warm bc it was too hot for son. Fjallarnika has 90% feather/10% down so I thought getting it in light warm for summer would be a cooler option than the light warm Fjallbracka which has 75% down/25% feather.

IKEA is 3 hrs away so going to see in person is basically already making the choice. Would like to get them this weekend so I can be ready to change the bedding as the weather warms up! Thanks

r/Bedding on Reddit: Suggestions to upgrade from Ikea duvet insert?
May 29, 2025 -

Hello all!

As title says, it's time to replace my 15 year old Ikea FJÄLLARNIKA light warm duvet insert. I have a separate full-warmth down duvet and it's great, but too hot for any time the outside temps are above freezing (or 15C in my bedroom). I've been using the Ikea one for the other 3 seasons, adding a wool blanket on top for the shoulder seasons. I've been quite happy with it generally, I like that there's enough weight to feel cozy without trapping too much heat for the summer. I could just replace it with the same one, but I'm curious as to what could be better out there. Also it's kind of annoying that Ikea duvet inserts are non-standard sizes and they never fit right with my non-Ikea covers.

I've been curious about silk duvets, but being dry clean only seems onerous. I have to wash mine in warm water regularly as I'm allergic to dust mites. I also worry that putting a heavy-ish wool blanket on top of the silk duvet for 2/3 the time will compress it and compromise its function, though I'm not sure if there's any real basis for this.

What would you recommend?

For reference the Queen size ikea duvet inserts are 86" x 86", and other brands (in Canada) are typically 92" x 90". I'll be using this for when temps in my bedroom 20-25C.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Are the IKEA down/down alternative inserts worth it?
August 23, 2024 -

Hi all, I’m considering pulling the trigger on buying a down insert from IKEA due to the amazing price. Also, is down or down alternative better? I live in western NY (Buffalo area) so we have long winters. I don’t really sleep or cold, basically in the middle. Any recs? I’m not trying to spend more than $150! LMK if they are worth it! Thanks

The issue with IKEA duvets is they use non standard measurements, so you're stuck with their duvet covers. I had one in my Queen and it never covered the bed quite right. They're minimal warmth comforter is great for someone who wants the weight of a comforter without retaining heat, it's one of the few polyester things I think does its job well, but I wish it fit my bed.

I’ve had one for about ten years, and it’s been okay. I’m planning to replace it this fall. It’s light weight, so good in summer, but needs extra blankets in the colder months. Down alternative is definitely better on the low budget end. Buying cheap down is just buying trouble (mostly feather, odor, clumping), and quality down is expensive. Im not convinced it’s worth it for most people for a comforter/duvet. Quality down pillows are worth it though. There are many down alternatives that are generic polyester fill. And there are a few that have a reputation for excellence while still not too expensive. I have a sleeping bag made with Primaloft, and it’s the real deal. It’s twenty years old and still in great condition. That’s what I’ll probably buy. Here’s one that you might like. This company has a great reputation and sells several different down alternative comforters. I’ve been meaning to call them and get more info on their various options. They are big suppliers to the hotel industry. So I’d recommend Primaloft without hesitation, and then you have to get the right weight for your preference. If you want to also look at down, check out Supreme Quilts
