That being said, a few caveats: I would recommend getting white doors only, as we have very visible white gaps behind our blue doors and we’re now trying to prime and paint the boxes to match the doors (eye roll). The first three kitchens had white doors. In our third kitchen, we got custom (white) doors from Scherr’s, which was a great choice and elevated the look. That was a good call. We also had a situation where the whole kitchen was built, but one door was on a mysterious back order so it was about three months without one corner cabinet door. Islands can be tricky - just keep that in mind if it’s relevant to you. When I re-did my 110sqft kitchen, Home Depot wouldn’t even talk to me about layout and price quoting until I paid them to have a guy come out and measure my space. (Even though I had original blueprints and did my own measurements to confirm before even going to places to get quotes.) Then they quoted me something like $15,000. For cabinets for a 110sqft kitchen? Get out. Then I went to the local hardware shop, and they sent me to a local cabinet shop. They had a designer digitize the measurements I brought them, and they set up a couple different layout options (including giving me extra ideas I hadn’t considered). Then they got me set up with a cabinet order (and nicer ones than I had looked at when I was at HD) for around $3,500 cabinets only (pre-assembled). Was going to be somewhere around $6,000-7,000 if I wanted them to install it. And the customer service was on point, too. More on reddit.com

I just did a kitchen with Home Depot cabinets. They have people on staff who will design the kitchen, and tell you what you need to buy. It’s turned out beautifully, but that may be fairly dependent on how good the designer is? I also paid someone $50 an hour to install the cabinets, so I’m not sure how much they might charge for installation.

guys! we moved into a new house almost a year ago ... recently evaluated our options and settled with a renovation plan for our 40 yr old 200 sqft kitchen with Ikea cabinets. We designed the kitchen using IKEA kitchen planner. I've got a total of 3 quotes and 2 of those are specific to IKEA kitchen installation labor costs with some add-on work, such as, flooring, electrical work, outside venting hood, etc. I am providing the lower-end estimate below (see Table) and wondering if you see any gaps or ways to reduce cost further down or opportunities for negotiations. I know I may be able to accomplish some of the listed work myself but DIY might be a long shot given my demanding job and other family responsibilities.

Any advice or insight to keep down the overall cost would be appreciated :)

Check out your local cabinet place- we got a 11k estimate for cabinets from ikea and ended up finding them for 8k at a local shop. We ended up doing half ikea half of the local shop (since the local place was 2 months out). Ikea cabinets are like everything ikea- finicky, very specific order and placing, so if you mess anything up when putting them together you are screwed. Learned this with cabinet doors and the toe kick. Add in the installation cost and we spent more on them versus the higher end ones from our local place. We paid 1k for just the island installation, which did not include the pre build of them (and as I later learned, the installer following ikeas requirements for feet placements and heights).

Hi all!
Looking for advice/ guidance on inexpensive kitchen cabinetry and your experiences with Ikea, Home Depot, Lowes, or local companies (I know prices will vary, but still intrigued). Which would likely be my cheapest option (considering quality to be at or around the same level)? Not looking for anything fancy, just trying to update my 60s kitchen on a budget-- the microwave is older than I am.
The kitchen is about 17' x 13', and uppers and lowers will run the length of the single 17' wall. No cabinets will be on the 13' walls. We are looking to put in a rather large island (somewhere around 12' x 5').
Here's a tentative drawing of what I imagine it will look like-- I'm not an artist, please don't judge!

Almost certainly not HD or Lowes. They tend to be kind of expensive, actually. IKEA is pretty affordable, and like another reply said if you can find a local self-assembled cabinets place they'll be pretty cheap too. I think there are also some websites that sell super cheap cabinets if you're willing to look.
