guys! we moved into a new house almost a year ago ... recently evaluated our options and settled with a renovation plan for our 40 yr old 200 sqft kitchen with Ikea cabinets. We designed the kitchen using IKEA kitchen planner. I've got a total of 3 quotes and 2 of those are specific to IKEA kitchen installation labor costs with some add-on work, such as, flooring, electrical work, outside venting hood, etc. I am providing the lower-end estimate below (see Table) and wondering if you see any gaps or ways to reduce cost further down or opportunities for negotiations. I know I may be able to accomplish some of the listed work myself but DIY might be a long shot given my demanding job and other family responsibilities.

Note that the IKEA kitchen cabinets may cost another $10k, tiles may cost around $2k, and kitchen appliances, including refrigerator, dishwasher, range, lighting, sink, etc. may end up being an additional $5 to 6k. So, overall, I am looking at $30k for the entire renovation.
Any advice or insight to keep down the overall cost would be appreciated :)

you can always find the cheapest handyman around, but the cabinets might fall off the walls after a few months or something else may be done wrong

Check out your local cabinet place- we got a 11k estimate for cabinets from ikea and ended up finding them for 8k at a local shop. We ended up doing half ikea half of the local shop (since the local place was 2 months out). Ikea cabinets are like everything ikea- finicky, very specific order and placing, so if you mess anything up when putting them together you are screwed. Learned this with cabinet doors and the toe kick. Add in the installation cost and we spent more on them versus the higher end ones from our local place. We paid 1k for just the island installation, which did not include the pre build of them (and as I later learned, the installer following ikeas requirements for feet placements and heights).

The in-store planners are crucial and extremely helpful. No way we could have designed it on our own and have it look right. We did IKEA cabinets and their quartz countertops and we paid an unaffiliated local contractor to do the demo of the existing kitchen, build and install the cabinets, counters were installed by the IKEA countertop people, and our contractor is finishing backsplash, etc. kitchen is on the small side and no changes to the footprint. we took out a home loan for $15,000 that we’re paying back over five years. When all is said and done the total cost will probably be closer to $17,000. We were quoted $50,000-$60,000 minimum by a design build company so this certainly seems like a bargain and the new kitchen is beautiful. More on reddit.com
