November 1, 2023 - I did, and didn't use them because the reviews were almost uniformly 1/5 and there were some real horror stories. Also IKEA made several bad mistakes with our order because of the complete disconnect between their designers and the warehouse (they forgot to tell me the oven was out of stock and this was only discovered when my builders were trying to find it to install it) and ringing us at 3 am in the US asking where was someone to let them in to make their delivery...That said, I am very happy with everything now that it's all fixed.

r/IKEA on Reddit: Did you use the Ikea kitchen installers? UK
October 3, 2023 -

I’m booked in for a pre installation visit with the company that Ikea use to install kitchens. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should expect or any do or don’ts? Will they be willing to do more at additional cost and will they try and overcharge me? I do have a really good handyman who can fit the kitchen. but I need a radiator removed and my current gas oven removed and pipes capped as I’m changing to electric and new herringbone flooring laid. He doesn’t want to do these jobs. He just wants to spend 4-5 days ripping out old kitchen and installing the new one.

I’m sorry if these questions seem silly but I’m just trying to figure it all out on my own. After buying this property I’ve had one nightmare after another with tradesmen.

I would still recommend his installation as I was impressed at how customized the cabinets look-the installation required lots of cutting and customizing; but just wanted to share. Thanks! ... Hi, we're about to update our kitchen and were wondering if anyone has experience and thoughts about Ikea cabinets and appliances. The 5+ year old BPN reviews of the cabinets indicate some problems with the pressboard boxes falling apart when wet, etc., but Ikea has a warranty that sounds good on paper.

IKEA Kitchen Review - 10 Years Later! - Cozy DIY Home
July 11, 2025 - For countertops, we used IKEA butcher block counters and stained & sealed them. I chose polished chrome hardware, plumbing fixtures and light fixtures and installed the IKEA white farmhouse sink. I still love the look of our vintage industrial styled kitchen, and it’s held up wonderfully for us and our three kids.

we did it! My father in law and I installed my whole IKEA kitchen. If you don’t own a table saw, or if you aren’t very handy with a circular saw, you’re in for a doozy. If you plan on having an island, you’re in for a doozy. If you’re not confident in your own craftsmanship WITHOUT instructions, you’re signing up for a final exam in a class you never took. I’m very handy, I build furniture for fun (hobby, not a business) and do tons of reno work. My IKEA kitchen is fantastic, but we had a few issues with ikea that we had to work around First of all - your walls and floors aren’t dead flat. The corners of your house aren’t perfect 90°. None of them are. Don’t assume ANYTHING is going to be a “perfect fit” and always leave room for filler pieces. Secondly, once you’re happy with your design and concept and have placed your order, when the delivery comes, CHECK IN EVERY ITEM, LINE BY LINE before you let the drivers leave. We went back and forth with IKEA like 3 or 4 times before we actually got all of our materials. There’s a good chance that not all your box sizes are in stock. I was able to mitigate this (because I’m handy) by ordering the next size up, and cutting it down to the size I actually wanted on a table saw. The cleat rail system is great, but the plastic feet are garbage. They’ll work and get the job done, but I covered them up with a decent wood piece for a toe kick and shoe molding anyways. I scrapped the plastic feet for my island, and installed the boxes onto some 2x material that was shimmed in certain place so that it was dead flat. That felt much sturdier than the shitty 2x5 block system they give you. The little rails that hold the top of the box together is scrap metal and sits proof above the box. This is bad because a stone countertop can crack if it’s raised in some places like that. I cut down some 1x4 material and installed it flush with the top of the box to prevent cracking Install your filler pieces and corner edges flush with the DRAWER face and not the BOX. It looks so much cleaner. The drawer install instructions are useless. It says “On the 13th peg hole” and then when you screw your drawer slides there, they’re too high and bonk into your countertop. It happened to me 3 times before I was like “ok, these are Fucking wrong. It’s the 12th peg hole. Fuckers” You /can/ do it with all hand tools (as per the instructions), but it’s a lot of extra work. The things We used (that IKEA obviously didn’t provide for us) Drill and driver Circular saw Miter saw Table saw Omnitool Dead blow mallet Hammer Grinder Drill press Carpenters square 2’ bubble level 4’ bubble level Brad nail gun and compressor Drawer pull jig Pocket hole jig An assload of wood screws and cabinet screws of varying lengths Safety goggles, earbuds, and gloves About 20 pencils A decent Bluetooth speaker and 90’s rock A case of beer per day we worked A few good 2x4 boards A few good 1x4 boards Shims 4x8 OSB I’d absolutely do it again. But then again, I have all these tools and i enjoy putting them to work around the house!
