How Well Do IKEA Kitchen Cabinets Actually Hold Up? A Very Honest Review 4 Years Later - Emily Henderson
February 22, 2023 - It’s been called “stinky” and one person said the review gave her the “icks.” That does feel unkind. But you are right that disagreement is perfectly appropriate. ... We bought an apartment in Portugal and it was renovated with Ikea cabinets so this was very useful. We figure if we get ten years out of them, we’ll redesign the kitchen at that point.

Ultimate IKEA Kitchen Review: Is the hassle worth it? | Fifi McGee
August 13, 2024 - Saying that, I’m sure the solid wood options would hold up a lot better, and I’m even considering replacing the shaker-style drawer fronts we had custom-fitted in 2015 with IKEA’s FRÖJERED fronts for an easy kitchen glow-up. Internally, the fittings leave much to be desired. The HÅLLBAR waste sorting system is really flimsy, coming apart every time you open the drawer in both of our kitchens. The Benchmarx one we had fitted into a door in a previous property was perfect, even ten years on. Scrolling through quickly it looked like piano keys! But seriously a gorgeous kitchen! Love it! ... We finally finished our kitchen remodeling project.

I'm getting quotes for some work of a full kitchen remodel. Anybody use them? Horror stories? Good experiences?

Can’t speak to the design and process but we bought a house with a newly remodeled IKEA kitchen. We liked the aesthetic but were hesitant because we had heard that IKEA was of lesser quality. We have been in the house four years now and honestly if we were ever to buy a new house or remodel this one again, we would consider IKEA as an option. Everything has held up nicely and the previous owners left us the folder from the design/consultation with all information making the couple pieces we have had to replace or upgrade very easy to find. The receipt was included as well and the whole remodel with cabinets, counters, sink, faucets, appliances (fridge, oven, dishwasher, range, and microwave) was less than $10k. Also there is a company that retrofits IKEA hardware with higher end carpentry. So if you’re ballin on a budget right now, go with the IKEA and then you can upgrade the cabinets later. https://www.semihandmade.com/

Super high quality to cost ratio. Assuming you get the boxes put together correctly from the get go.

July 11, 2025 - I find they show every spec of dust or debris, and even after I wipe them down they can still look dusty. If I were to remodel our kitchen one day, I’d go for all white cabinets. Since we installed our kitchen, the IKEA kitchen system has changed a little, but it’s still very similar to ours.

Ikea cabinets are great looking and inexpensive if selling you home within a couple of years. If you actually plan on living in the home for 5 years plan on replacing them as they fall apart. The particle board will fall apart with the kitchen humidity and hard use. remodeller ... I read a bunch of positive reviews ...

June 7, 2023 - Considering that the project involved demolishing walls and reconfiguring the entire layout of the first floor, the client readily embraced the idea of using Ikea kitchen cabinets to keep expenses within their desired range. Even after a few years, they continue to adore their kitchen, which serves as a testament to the success of our recommendation.

November 16, 2022 - So we called and Ikea sent out a new one, no problem at all. ... After multiple multiple multiple calls with customer service I’ve gotten a couple people to admit that you will never get a complete order of the first try. That would’ve been nice to know before I hired a cabinet installer to the tune of $1000 a day only to learn my order is not complete. ... Absolutely avoid!! I’ve spent months waiting for all of the pieces of my kitchen to be available.

Ikea Kitchen-Do or Don't?
We had our heart set on doing real wood cabinets from Ikea but after our trip there found out that the only style we liked will not work with all of the other details we already have figured out. We like the design of a foil finish option but I'm extremely hesitant to go that route given that is what is failing in our kitchen currently.

January 24, 2023 - It was amazing quality and the number of options are second to none. Our new house has a fancy kitchen that cost several times what we spent in IKEA (not our choice!) and it's by no means any better.
