We have a malm bed (two in fact) the squeak is caused by the wooden slats pushing against the metal side and centre rails. The cheaper wooden slats cause this as there if nothing cushioning the wood unlike the more expensive slats which terminate in plastic / rubber ends. My solution was really simple. Felt tape down both side rails and the centre beam where the wood would touch the metal. Then also wrap ends of the slats on the outside edges of the bed in felt tape too. Absolutely silent since.
