Malm Storage Bed
I've had one for 10 years, it's amazing! It doesn't squeak and is incredibly solid. The lift mechanism works perfectly and holds up a fairly heavy combination spring/foam mattress. I can't imagine ever having a normal bedframe again, having direct access to all that storage is a game changer in a small apartment. Also, assembly was easy for me, as with all IKEA, just carefully follow the instructions and don't rush. I disassembled it and moved it to a different apartment about 8 years ago and reassembled it with no issues. More on reddit.com

Just put together a malm, honestly this will be a lot easier than lots of ikea furniture. Undo the 4 nuts just below the headboard and lift the headboard up - there will be pegs that connect the headboard to the base so you might need to wiggle slightly to loosen them (just be careful cause if they break you’ll have a tough time reassembling) More on reddit.com

Hello, does anyone have experience with the Malm Storage bed that lifts up? How was assembly? What kind of mattress do you use? Does it squeak? Or am I better off getting a similar bed elsewhere..

I've had one for 10 years, it's amazing! It doesn't squeak and is incredibly solid. The lift mechanism works perfectly and holds up a fairly heavy combination spring/foam mattress. I can't imagine ever having a normal bedframe again, having direct access to all that storage is a game changer in a small apartment. Also, assembly was easy for me, as with all IKEA, just carefully follow the instructions and don't rush. I disassembled it and moved it to a different apartment about 8 years ago and reassembled it with no issues.

Installed the single version for a teenager. Installation is a little more fiddly than the non storage version. And the lift mechanism gets a little getting used to. But it hides a stores a lot of ridiculous teddy bears. So worth every penny.
