IKEA Markus is overrated
Ikea Markus: Should I buy it?
Got one of these in the office, gotta say I find it very uncomfortable myself. It's back's fixed, too long and curbed like a banana, inwards...so it's making you slouch in a way. At least that's my experience with it at 5'11" (160lbs). The elbow rests on this one are very flimsy and not that comfortable. They broke off on the one we've got. After one and a half years use..i find the sit to be uncomfortable (the cushion's almost gone, it's like sitting on hardwood...the guy who used it was about 180lbs)
Myself, I'm using the FLINTAN with the elbow rests (which are made of some hard, spongy-ish material) and I use it for 7-8 hours straight without any issues. The back's flexible too, mesh + it swivels a bit, (you can block it tho). I've been using one for 2 years without any back pain (used to have some in the past, when using different chairs but i was quite sedentary then, now not so much...so mileage may vary).
In short, I would never buy a Markus due to personal experience with it.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to give my two cents about the IKEA Markus...
I have had it for about 3 months now, and I must admit that I have not been satisfied with it. Here are three things that I dislike:
The arm rests have a pretty comfy feel/surface, but their position is REALLY bad, mostly in terms of width, but also in terms of height
The lumbar support really isn't that great, and the entire back rest doesn't really promote good posture by any means
The chair itself has already started creaking. I am a pretty heavy guy (190 cm, 110 kg), and I can't say for sure that my size hasn't impacted this, but man, I feel like it's early for a brand new chair to start creaking (I haven't been rough with it by any means)
One good thing is that the seat is wide and pretty comfy, so there's that. Oh, and the entire back being mesh is pretty cool too, so that you don't overheat.
This is by no means a hate post, and I am well aware that at that price, you get a pretty good chair. I just thought I'd share my thoughts, since it's often praised as the best "bang for the buck"-chair, and I chose it due to this very reason. I'll sadly say that I am not satisfied with it, and I honestly wouldn't really recommend it.
Hey guys, I spend around 10+ hours in my chair each day and need something that will fit my budget. My biggest gripe is butt padding, I've gone through many $150 AUD chairs that lasted 6 months before it felt like sitting on wood and my current chair I got from my old work but is starting to go the same route. I'm 6' and 165lbs in freedom units. I can't afford any decent chairs and where i'm from herman millers etc are not any cheaper on craigslist.
The Markus excites me because it's a highback which I really love. I've heard complaints that the padding is bad but I'm not clear on what about it is bad. Can anyone who owns one lend me some insight specifically on the padding/cushion but in general too.

I have this exact chair! It's decently comfortable for short time periods (1-2 ish hours) but after that it just doesn't really cut it for me. I just bought a cheap pillow (like, for sleeping) and put it on the seat, and what a huge difference! The high back is fantastic, and once a pillow or something is added it's a great chair
So i'm looking for a chair, coming from a generic office chair and i'm looking at options, Ikea Markus being one of them. Thing is i live in a hot place so i usually play with just boxers on, ofcourse sometimes legs sweat and it feels icky on the bottom side, though it doesnt smell. Would you recommend the markus or are there other good choices? And how easy/hard is it to clean the markus?
Main considerations:
Something cool as it is hot here.
Budget. Looking for something affordable
Something unassuming/simple looking like the markus.
Btw im 5'7"
Thanks bros
