Hi All -
New to the sub and would love some help. I just moved and am attempting to hang this IKEA medicine cabinet in my bathroom. I measured and marked my two drill holes for drywall anchors and used a stud finder. Here's the assembly document - I'm on steps 9 and 10. The left hole placement is located where the finder found some potential studs since the finder's magnets held. That said, I went ahead and tried to drill and only got 1/2 inch deep before hitting what felt like metal or a possible protective plate for wiring (I assume) behind both drill holes.
This is definitely the spot I'd like to hang the cabinet and am not sure how to proceed. Is it possible to find anchors small enough to do the job? Or do I even need anchors? The assembly document's pictures don't say anchors are needed but I also know a short screw might not be enough to hold the cabinet. The item didn't come with the screws highlighted in step 10.
Appreciate any help or guidance!

If you hit something hard then it could very well be a drill plate. The half inch accounts for the drywall.

Are you in a detached home or a condo? If condo you may have hit a concrete wall or metal stud. Use concrete anchors. If in a detached home just verify you are on a stud by measuring from the corner of the wall to where you want to hang the cabinet to see if it lands on 16" on centre. Each stud should be 16" on centre starting from the corner. A metal protector plate shouldn't be on the stud but covering pipes between the studs. You will not get enough support from short screw. Also, in older homes the studs can be very hard from age and need some torque to drill into.
