September 13, 2023How do you hang a heavy mirror like Hemnes?
Iirc the plugs supplied in the Ikea box are rawl plugs. They are for cement/brick walls. As others have said, you want drywalls specific plugs that mushroom out as you screw in the screw. I have some here rated for 6kg (dependent on drywall thickness) but you can get different weight ratings. Be careful when fitting them. If you go in too heavy handed they will strip the plasterboard out and you'll have to start again in a different spot. More on reddit.com

It looks like it’s designed to sit on two screws. Take a tape measure and measure the distance between the centres of the holes. Transfer those measurements to the wall with a pencil, check that they are level, and screw in a couple of screws so the heads stick out a half inch and hang the mirror off those. More on reddit.com

April 18, 2023 - Strike a horizontal level line in pencil for the top and bottom sets of holes, measure center to center and transfer those endpoints to the top line centered on where you want the mirror. Spirit level and straight edge can help you telegraph the same marks plumb to the lower line. I would use small plastic helical anchors in the drywall at the mount points and #4 flat head Phillips screws. Bonus points for a stud sensor to help miss the framing in the wall. IKEA is metric, so not much sense trying to hit 16" on center...

Those are often used in the center of a mirror and you use small nails or screws to hang it. The teeth allow it to move a tiny bit either way on the nail, so it will hang evenly. Putting them in 3 of the corners allow it to be hung either horizontally or vertically and the nails you use don't have to be positioned exactly to allow it to hang evenly. I usually us small gauge nails, with a head that are hammered into the drywall at a slight angle upwards. Screws leave too big of a hole in the drywall and break apart the drywall. Nails go through the drywall and leave a very tiny hole. Which is good if you rent.

The spot I want to hang my heavy ikea hemnes mirror does not have studs aligned with the back brackets. I no longer have the instructions that came with the mirror, but I’m not sure they would’ve been much good anyway. Has anyone hung it into drywall? How did you do it?
I tried the longest traditional plastic anchors from the ikea anchor box (the assorted size box they sell by the checkout), but they pulled out right away once I hung the mirror to them. I’m thinking about drilling d-rings into the back of the mirror then using a wire to hang it from the studs? I’m a novice diy-er so any advice is appreciated. I have a baby on the way so wanna get this thing secured and off the floor. Thank you!
