Bought two of the chairs and a small table back in March. With the padding they are definitely comfortable. When the weather is nice, the wife and I sit out on the balcony and enjoy a morning coffee. I’m currently in grad school and I don’t have a ton of money to spend so ideally I’d like something nice that will not look terrible in a year. I saw these in person and they’re beautiful, but I’m nervous about how wood will hold up outdoors. This would be on a shaded balcony, that barely sees any sun haha. The balcony ledge is also pretty tall. I live near the ocean so I don’t know if the air will affect the wood too..this is my first place so I’m new to all of this stuff. Any suggestions or things I should know before purchasing?

We have this set for 3+ years now. It first lived outdoors for a year in Los Angeles where it got sun but little to no humidity or rain. We then moved cross country to Florida, used it indoors for a few months then moved to a balcony. It rains almost daily and it was not covered. Now it’s on our lanai where it is fully shaded. The only issue we had was the stain fading in a few areas on a couple chairs and part of the table top. It’s very easy to restain it though. No issues with warping or breaking at all.

APPLARÖ / NÄMMARÖ are nice funiture, but don't get them wet too often else you will have a warped mess after only a few seasons.

Relatively inexpensive, recommended by wirecutter, great reviews online and it’s comfortable (we’ve visited a show room).
One downside is people complain that after a year or so, it gets weathered but can be restored
I’m wondering if it’s worth it to just apply my own cost of polyurethane at the very beginning rather than waiting for it to weather on its own.
If so, would I just sand it down lightly, apply polyurethane in several coats and then treat with teak oil? Or does the teak oil come before the poly?

I have this furniture. It is AWFUL. It doesn't take refinishing well at all. It's pretty much constant maintenance to keep it looking nice.

I too have this furniture. The boards on the top of the table have warped leaving a wavy table top after less than a year outside. The finish didn't just fade, rather it actually flakes off. I wish I spent the money on real teak. On a side note, teak oil should be used on teak wood, not this cheap acacia crap. The idea behind teak oil is that is all you use on it. No stain, no sealer, no poly. Teak is its own thing and has special care instructions but will last forever. Quality stuff.
