IKEA Pax Closet - before & after
Ikea pax inside a reach in closet
PAX closet - baseboard question
Def remove baseboard so you can snug it against the wall. There are pry tools made specifically for this. Some people even run their baseboards along the front of the system for a more built in look you might like as well.
Depending on the height of the units you bought and the height of your ceilings, you may have to assemble in the closet. That’s what we had to do with 8 ft ceilings and 8 ft pax units.

Before and after Ikea closet build. Used the pax system and just designed on the ikea website. Total cost (after purchasing trim pieces, some small hiccups with ikea pieces) about $3500. Smallest bid we got was for $8200 (see included bid), and was for far less of a custom look than what we were able to do with the DIY route. We had bids up to $12k. 😳 Anyways, here are the before/after pics (Yes, the baby currently sleeps in the closet, haha). Unfortunately, did a bad job of documenting the process, but happy to answer any questions.
Hello,
I’m thinking about installing a pax system inside a reach in closet.
The inside of the closet is 131.5 in long, 27.5 in deep, and 96 in high. It has 3 sliding doors, each 40.5 in by 80 in.
I’m planning to get at least 2 pax frames (1 and 2) a 39in and the other 29in. Center the 39in (1) inside the closet to make sure it would clear the 40.5 in door. If needed, add the other 29in (2) frame at a spacing so that it would clear the other door spacing.
I’m ok if I cannot add the end frames-3 and 4 with the hangers. I’ll just do regular hanging rods there.
I had a virtual appointment with an ikea planner today and she said I cannot install a 22 in deep system inside my closet. I told her I am planning to take the doors out before assembling the system and reinstall them Later once the pax is attached to the wall. But she told me that since her planning tool was not allowing it so it’s not possible. I told her I don’t care if the drawers open into the room outside the closet doors but she was pretty sure it won’t work again because the planner wasn’t allowing her to do it.
The potential problems I see are-
-
not being able to open the 39 in drawers of frame 1. But should that be an issue if I align it properly with the 40.5 in door opening?
-
not being able to assemble the frames at all since the door opening are 80 in high and IKEA recommends 80.75in. Can we assemble it inside the closet in a standing position?
Please help! Thanks in advance!
