February 11, 2022 - Justin's 2 year old daughter goes to a Montessori-style preschool during the week, and the first thing she does upon arrival is walk over to the sink, dispense some soap, wash and dry her hands all by herself.

September 22, 2024 - This is basically a big sticker that I adhered to the top of the counter and then used a razor blade to cut out the hole for the faucet and sink. I chose a natural wood look (that looks like the original countertop), but there are so many different finishes available ... Follow the instructions that come with the IKEA kitchen to put it all together.

July 24, 2025 - The plush vegetables in the basket are from IKEA, as well. We stored more play food and more plates and accessories in the cabinet. I tried to minimize the amount of plastic I was purchasing for this and there were SO many cute wood options! These utensils are from here and here. We did drill holes in all the utensils so we could add strings and hang them along the backsplash. I painted two burners with a gold paint pen. If you want to see how to do the undermount sink, I got that idea from Laura’s and I got the idea for the wood knobs (in front of the stove) from Molly’s.

January 10, 2022 - Watering plants: We have four small potted plants and a little watering can on the windowsill about this kitchen. Andrew can fill up the watering can on his own, and loves to help water the plants. (He can also clean up any spills by himself with his towels.) Washing dishes: We’ve showed Andrew how to wash dishes a few times, and he’s still getting the hang of it. He’s not quite patient enough to get all the bubbles rinsed off, but he’s learning. September 27, 2022 - Stuck the tiles onto the foam board ... play kitchen for under $20!! It’s so simple. Drill holes into the sink, there are already drain hole indents so just use those as a guide....

July 17, 2021 - It’s just a medium sized mixing bowl with a 1/2 inch rim. The thickness of the rim is important because I wanted to leave room for error when cutting the sink hole in the countertop. For the countertop, we got a piece of pine, put the Ikea counter piece on top and traced and cut with a jigsaw.

October 4, 2022 - He can access the sink in his Montessori functional kitchen fine without the leg extenders on, but it would be too tall with them on. I painted the countertop white at first but later decided to cover it with faux marble contact paper. I replaced the battery-operated stovetop that came with the set with a wooden cutting board. The cutting board can be swapped with the IKEA small trofsat bins that are used in their sensory table.

January 13, 2025 - I didn’t take enough pictures of the sink, but here is the step by step that I took and hopefully you will NEVER have to do: Cut off the excess/broken plastic. Measure the circumference of the sink and cut it down to the same height.
