iMac (Apple silicon) - Wikipedia
2 weeks ago - The iMac with Apple silicon is a line of all-in-one desktop Macs made by Apple Inc. since 2021. The first major redesign of the iMac line since 2012, the case and internals were redesigned to use Apple's custom processors, starting with the M1 system on a chip.
Why are the Mac Pro and Studio still on the M2 but the iMac, Mini, and MBP are on the M4?
The M3 was a transitional process node with lower capacity, which was not followed up with additional high end machines beyond the Mac Book Pros. The Pro and Studio are traditionally updated in the spring. So we should expect to see them move to M4 in the next few months. More on reddit.com
Should i wait for M2 iMac or just buy a M2 Mac mini right now ?
If you need the latest right now, you cant wait. If you can wait, you don’t need it now. That being said, I’d go for the M2 Mini and just add in the accessories. You can pretty much build an iMac with Mac mini and a studio display and Magic Keyboard + mouse or trackpad. More on reddit.com
iMac Announcement - October 28
I really wish Apple had continued making the 27" iMacs. If they had, I’d be seriously considering one. My father feels the same way; for years, he’s been frustrated that his aging 27" iMac can’t be replaced without giving up on screen size. Now, he’s debating a Mac Mini paired with an external monitor, but it’s just not the same elegant, all-in-one solution that the iMac offers. More on reddit.com

I'm a noob when it comes to apple hardware cycle updates, so can someone explain to me why Apple is using processors from two generations ago on the Mac Pro and Mac Studio?

M2 ultra is less than 2 yrs old. They don't refresh these high end machines often. M2 Ultra in most cases will outperform M4 pro in multi core and massively in GPU, like 4x faster GPU. M4 Pro with it's newer architecture may be able to lead on single core performance and have newer tech features. But you wouldn't be buying a M2 ultra if this was your core reasoning.

Look I love Apple, but they are all over the place again like they were in the 90's... The difference is that they have so much money now that they aren't in desperation mode to survive. As a fan it's easy for me to look for what I want or what others want, but for an outsider looking in, it can be rough. Basically it comes to product cycles and every product is updated at different times for a plethora of reasons.

r/mac on Reddit: Should i wait for M2 iMac or just buy a M2 Mac mini right now ?
September 16, 2023 -
So i wanna buy a new computer but i can't decide which one. I really like the iMac as it is shipped with everything you need in a computer, a keyboard, a mouse, the iMac obviously with the screen and everything but it's not been updated in 2 years and i need the latest right now.
So i am confused whether i should buy a Mac mini with a M2 chip right now and buy a display of my choice and then keyboard and mouse separately
Or shall i wait for apple to release a new iMac with updated chip ?

Minis are great. No need to get rid of a good display down the road when you upgrade

27-inch iMac rumors: Everything you need to know | iMore
October 19, 2022 - The last iMac Pro rumors we heard suggested that machine would use M1 Pro or M1 Max chips, although that seems less likely now that we're already looking at M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro notebooks being on the horizon. Could the iMac Pro use M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips, leaving M2 Pro for the 27-inch iMac?
