Careers in medical signal/image processing
The big thing in medical signal/image processing right now, and in the next decade at least, is in AI processing and data analysis methods to clean up noisy data. The science behind the main imaging modalities-- CT, MRI, and ultrasound is very mature. No one is interested in pushing these though - we want to see how we can make these SMALLER and faster. And yea, if we can get AI to flag things on the scan that will be even better. Examples hyperfine research's new portable mri system. Or the home care femom system. More on reddit.com
Recent Computer Vision/Medical Image Analysis PhD Graduate looking for advice. Gently roast my CV and approach to job-searching [Edit 4].
I think you would really benefit from talking to people who have already made the transition from PhD -> technical industry job. I'm usually pretty confident in my resume advice, but your situation is too specific. (Which is not a bad thing - some company will really value your strengths.) Also, hiring mostly happens through warm connections. Going in the "front door" by applying to listings, or through recruiters, is not the best way. So, make those connections - through friends, acquaintances, alumni of your university, your professors' industry networks. More on reddit.com
Medical imaging Python jobs
There are some medical database that can be used for R&D (not sure about access though) but for live medical operations 100% of tasks will be made on certified hardware and software, no software developers tinkering.
You could look for companies doing machine vision, specialized imaging type of stuff, although likely they won't use Python, depends.

It's going to depends on what you want to do in the medical imaging industry. Do you want to build the circuits of the machines? Design the RF protocols for the imaging? Take the shitload of data an image produces and process it into something useful? Search the data for anomalies like cancer, torn ligaments, broken bones? Design the power requirements for the room? Design the UPSs that each machines uses? As you can see, there is a lot of different modalities. Philips and GE are the two biggest players with medical imaging machines so I would start looking at their career pages. More on reddit.com

This suggests that DLIR offers notable advantages in enhancing cranial CT scan quality, potentially improving diagnostic accuracy and patient care in medical imaging. This study explored the use of automated machine learning (AutoML) for identifying the presence of hemoperitoneum in ultrasonography (USG) images of Morrisonโs pouch in trauma patients. Utilizing a dataset of 2200 USG images from 864 patients across multiple South Korean trauma centers, this research study employed Googleโs open-source AutoML for model training and validation. The process involved training the model with 1800 images, internal validation with 200 images, and external validation with an additional 200 images from an independent center.

Medical imaging physicists who understood the principles of image acquisition and formation, but who typically did not have the specific applied mathematics, computer science, or signal and image processing background to contribute in the algorithm development areas. By being physically located in the medical school while maintaining close ties to engineering through teaching and research, we strove to advance the field by developing new image processing and analysis methodology fully grounded with knowledge of image acquisition physics, anatomy and physiology, and the clinical and scientific questions.
