April 10, 2025 - All in all, "Hotel Reverie" holds a really promising premise. This could have been one of the best Black Mirror stories, were it not for the disastrous miscast. ... Some really nice moments and the concept was entertaining. But there were many illogical moments that were very frustrating to watch. E.g. With Redream; it's a company with 'state of the art' technology, which hires A List actors, but it gets the actors to run through their scenes live, with absolutely no ability to pause, cut or rewind?

November 3, 2025 - The episode centres around actress Brandy Friday (Issa Rae) who stars in a remake of a 1940s romance film by acting in a simulation alongside artificial intelligence (AI) versions of the characters through an immersive AI-based virtual production. "Hotel Reverie" received generally positive reviews, with praise directed towards Rae's performance and the visuals, as well as the more bittersweet tone compared to previous Black Mirror episodes.

April 13, 2025 - If this was an animated cartoon, it would have made sense, but for humans to be saying these lines, and making these decisions (for the actress to want to be IN this movie playing a middle-aged white man, for producers to choose the young, female, black actress to play the part of a middle-aged white man, to send crucial info over on a flash drive??

Luckily for her, cash-strapped studio head Judith Keyworth (Harriet Walter) has agreed to use Redream software, which inserts modern stars into films of yesteryear for interactive remakes, in an effort to revitalize her floundering Keyworth Pictures. Brandy jumps at the chance to lead a new version of her favorite film, Hotel Reverie, which finds her playing the gender-swapped hero Alex Palmer.

“Hotel Reverie” is the third episode of Black Mirror’s seventh season. Very quickly, it seems to want to mimic some of the storytelling and themes from “San Junipero”, one of the best episodes of the series, but falls flat in doing so. Spoilers for Black Mirror season seven episode three below.

In a certain montage, there wasn't even any dialogue, and I ran out of tissues. That's what good acting looks like. All in all, "Hotel Reverie" holds a really promising premise. This could have been one of the best Black Mirror stories, were it not for the disastrous miscast.

Likely to go down as many viewers’ favorite episode of the season, Hotel Reverie offers one of Black Mirror’s best romances this side of San Junipero, while also exploring some topical themes in a way that is engaging yet not all that difficult to palette.
