December 22, 2024 - Jesus calls for a new spiritual family in relationship to him and his Father, united in the defining characteristic of Jesus’ life and ministry: obedience to the will of the Father (Matt. 12:50). Family you come from vs Family you create
Imo, the family you choose is more important than the family you are born into. “Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24, LITV) “47. Then one said to Him, Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak to You. 48. But answering, He said to the one speaking to Him, Who is My mother? And who are My brothers? 49. And stretching out His hand to His disciples, He said, Behold, My mother and My brothers. 50. For whoever shall do the will of My Father in Heaven, that one is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:47-50, LITV) This doesn't mean that your biological family is unimportant or that we don't have a duty to our parents.. “Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long on the land which Jehovah your God is giving to you.” (Exodus 20:12, LITV) More on reddit.com

Does God expect us to put him infront of our family?
I choose to reframe this thought. The whole idea of "putting God first" is problematic in several ways. I prefer to think in terns of "making God the Center". God was the center of my marriage while my wife lived. God remains the center of my relationship with my mom and my son. God is the center of my relationships with my coworkers and our customers. When I fully ground myself in Christ, and let His Spirit inform my choices of what I do, say, and think, I am keeping Him above all other things. He does not come between me and other people, but is over both me and others. He does not prevent me from laying my life down in service to others, but aids me in doing so. Making love for Christ my constant focus does not cause me to love others less, but increases my capacity to love then more than ever. Because God is Love, Love is not a limited commodity to be rationed where it is most needed. Love is an inexhaustible resource that absolutely cannot be used up. It is the living water Christ pours through us whenever we let Him do so. I am most loving to my family when I am most in love with my Savior. God does not stoop to compete with my family for my affection, He stoops to so pour His affection through me that my family cannot help but receive a greater benefit. This is not economics 101. It is Heaven's abundance. More on reddit.com

March 1, 2020 - Explaining what each family was like and relationships between families was very important to understanding the society as a whole.
