What does “A la verga” mean? With no other words, just said by itself.
It has a number of meanings, you won't find just a singular meaning. It expresses: Indisposition to tolerate: Mandé a la verga a mi jefe por fin; ¡Vete a la verga y deja de molestar!; synonym to a la chingada, but probably in a slightly more vulgar register. Disdain: Si no quieres ir a la fiesta, pues a la verga, iré solamente yo. Disapproval: A la verga con tus amigos, son unos mamones [pretentious assholes]. Surprise: ¡A la verga, Rusia declaró la guerra! Urgency: Sal de esta avenida a la verga porque hay mucho tráfico. Undesired result: Mi plan funcionó un momento pero se fue a la verga. It's used randomly at the end of phrases like a double intensifier: ¡Esta cerveza está bien chingona a la verga! ["bien chingona" already acts as an intensifier]; Te tardaste un chingo a la verga ["un chingo" already acts as an intensifier]. It's also used in stressful situation, like in your example of the person saying it over and over again during a shootout. I maybe missing some more usages, but that's roughly it. More on reddit.com

Why do people often use the phrase 'in other words' when they want to say something in a different way instead of just saying the new way directly?
I guess I don't understand this because, in my native language, we don't do this a lot.
