input()
The print() function makes it easy to send your data as text to standard out (see also: print()). The Python function input() goes the other direction, letting the user type something that goes in a Python variable.

Need Help with Input Function

myName = input() will wait for the user to enter something into the console, then set myName equal to that.

myName = input(message) will act as print(message) and then myName = input().

Can somebody ELI5 functions with inputs
Think of it as the literal same thing as math. f(x) -> some something with x and give it back. def(x) -> do something with x and return it. More on reddit.com

help with input statement in python
Do you understand what the input(...) function does? The input function, when called, will pause the program, wait for the user to type in something, and will continue once the user hits enter. The function will return whatever the user typed in as a string (assuming you're using the latest version of Python, which is Python 3). When you do foo = input(), you are assigning to the variable named foo whatever the input() function just returned. The input function may also optionally take in a single parameter, which must be a string. The parameters are the things that go inside the parenthesis of a function call. If you give it a string, Python will print out that string first as a prompt before asking the user to type in something. So, if you do foo = input("My prompt here"), Python will print out the prompt, ask the user for input, return that value, and store the returned value inside foo. Completely unrelated to input is the int function. The int function will take in some value as a parameter, will attempt to convert that value into an integer, and will return that integer if it succeeded in the conversion. If the conversion fails, Python will throw an exception -- that is, it stops running right there and spews out an error message. So, doing dog = input(int) makes no sense since input is meant to take in either no parameters or a string parameter, and int is not a string. Doing dog = int(input()) is equivalent to doing: temp_string = input() dog = int(temp_string) At the end of this, the dog variable will contain an integer -- that is, a number. More on reddit.com

Hi guys, I need help with user inputs, functions, and if statements.
Remove the input from the if statement, here you're checking if variable equals value. Input waits for user interaction, but you're already did that. if water == 'off': do_something() To stop the function if the user inputs 'off', you can use return False. More on reddit.com
