Instagram account getting hacked repeatedly.
If they bypass 2fa, I suspect an infostealer. Did you by any chance install anything on any device recently? Getting your password I understand, but to bypass 2fa, they will have to compromise something. Usually they would steal your session and then go in as though it was your device. The repeated bypass is the sign. For now, get control, change to your email and set up 2fa again, and immediately log out ALL Session. More on reddit.com

Instagram Account Hacked without Trace?
SAFETY NOTICE: Reddit does not protect you from scammers. By posting on this subreddit asking for help, you may be targeted by scammers ( example? ). Here's how to stay safe: Never accept chat requests, private messages, invitations to chatrooms, encouragement to contact any person or group off Reddit, or emails from anyone for any reason. Moderators, moderation bots, and trusted community members cannot protect you outside of the comment section of your post. Report any chat requests or messages you get in relation to your question on this subreddit ( how to report chats? how to report messages? how to report comments? ). Immediately report anyone promoting paid services (theirs or their "friend's" or so on) or soliciting any kind of payment. All assistance offered on this subreddit is 100% free, with absolutely no strings attached. Anyone violating this is either a scammer or an advertiser (the latter of which is also forbidden on this subreddit). Good security is not a matter of 'paying enough.' Never divulge secrets, passwords, recovery phrases, keys, or personal information to anyone for any reason. Answering cybersecurity questions and resolving cybersecurity concerns never require you to give up your own privacy or security. Community volunteers will comment on your post to assist. r/cybersecurity_help on Reddit: My Instagram Account Is Hacked (This Never Happened ONCE)
March 25, 2026 -

I don't know if this is the wrong subreddit to post this, but as the title suggests, my Instagram account is hacked but it never happened once or twice, but countless times, or maybe almost a dozen!

The first time this happened is a catfishing girl thing; they changed my name, username, bio, everything from my account. I had a weak password.

I made another one with a borderline of weak and strong password; still got hacked. I keep making more and more accounts, all of which are hacked by the same catfish scam thing.

The last two accounts I've made are all hacked now, both with two factor authentication (I changed my email) and I try to change the password but I can't do anything. It's always Instagram asking me to solve a CAPTCHA that gave it away that I got hacked.

I've used a VPN for the last account, which also got hacked and has a strong password to it.

And is there anything I can do to prevent such thing from happening again, and is the reason why I keep getting hacked is because of my IP address?

Signs Your Instagram Account Has Been Hacked
Presumably the worst sign is when you lose access to your account. This is when you try to log into your account and are a hundred percent sure that you used the correct password and there are no technical problems, but it still doesn't work. But this is not a hopeless situation. There are a few things you can still do to try to get your account back. If you have the feeling that your account got hacked, but you can still log in, you can do a few things to secure your account.

Last night I clicked on Instagram and it said there was a suspicious login attempt that obviously wasn’t me so I selected not me and changed my password. I got in but my profile doesn’t show my followers or who I’m following , it shows my profile picture but it says to add a bio and everything else.it lets me see my timeline but I can’t comment or DM. I tried on my computer browser and reset my password but it says we’re having problems resetting your password. I’ve searched up my account on my other account and it’s still there and everything is up and running. And it’s still connected to my email and Facebook and everything else. And when Instagram showed me the suspicious log in attempt it had said it had blocked them. And I’m still getting notifications from like DMs and stuff on this account it just won’t load when I click on them.

What’s happening with my account???

Today some of my friends noticed that a highlight has been posted on my account that I don't know of. It's not showing up for me, nor for a few friends, only some people could see it. It shows a woman whom I've never seen in Paris, a city I've never been to.

I changed my password and deactivated then reactivated 2 factor authentication. I don't know what to do, as there's no option to talk to meta support directly (embarassing for a company this big to be fair). What should I do?

I don't use Instagram often. In the Meta ecosystem, do you have any other services that are connected to Instagram? If so, have you checked all those accounts to make sure they aren't compromised? Meta Oculus, Facebook, WhatsApp, etc. Have you looked for any rogue accounts/devices that may have infiltrated your account and logged them out? Instagram Account Takeover in 2026: Signs, Recovery and Prevention - Keepnet
Attackers often move fast by changing login settings, locking out the real owner, and using the account to send scam messages. Recognizing the warning signs quickly can prevent further damage and stop attackers from spreading phishing links to your followers or colleagues. Watch for security alerts you didn’t trigger, especially anything about an instagram hacked password or an unexpected instagram hacked password change.

r/cybersecurity_help on Reddit: Instagram account getting hacked repeatedly.
February 10, 2026 -

Hi all, I’m posting this as clearly and factually as possible because I’m genuinely out of options and hoping someone here has seen something similar.

My Instagram account (created around 2010) has been the target of hacking attempts since the early 2010s. Recently, the attackers finally succeeded - even bypassing 2FA - and changed the email address linked to my account, locking me out.

Timeline:

  • Day 1 (Yesterday): I discovered my account had been compromised. I paid SGD $18 to subscribe to Meta Verified solely to get access to live support. I completed the video selfie verification, changed the email, and regained access successfully.

  • Later that same night: My account was hacked again. Email changed again. Lost access.

  • Recovery attempt #2: I went through the same recovery process and regained access. Within 10–15 minutes, the account was hacked again.

  • Meta’s response: I was told that because I had just changed my email, my account was on a cooldown and I would need to wait until the next morning to make further changes.

  • Day 2 (Next morning): After waiting, Meta now tells me:

    • My account is not compromised

    • They cannot help me regain access

    • I have exhausted all recovery options

At this point, I am completely stuck.

This account holds 16+ years of memories, archives, and personal history. I’ve done everything Meta asked - including 2FA security, identity checks, and waiting out cooldowns - yet the attacker seems able to repeatedly bypass security measures faster than I can respond.

I’m honestly at my wit’s end and feeling extremely dejected.

If anyone here has:

  • experienced repeated hacks even after 2FA and recovery, or

  • found a workaround, escalation path, or technical explanation for this,

I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you for reading.

This is the weirdest situation that happened to me ever. I’ve experienced hacks of every kind and I know how they look and how to prevent them nowadays but this one is unbelievably weird. Someone got into my Instagram account and made changes, but there’s no sign of an actual login.

Here’s what happened:

  • My profile was switched from private to public

  • They posted 3 reels which are promoting gambling and changed my bio to promote “CODE: REX = amount of money – REX****” (I won’t use the full name, but you get the point)

  • I have multiple two-factor authentication methods enabled

  • My password is strong, unique, and not reused anywhere else

  • I received no login notifications or emails from Instagram

  • Nothing shows up in the Recent Logins tab — the only active device is my personal phone, which I use daily

What I tried:

  • Checked all connected devices → only my phone is listed

  • Exported all my Instagram data → no signs of anyone else logging in, just the bio and reel changes

  • Revoked app access and changed my password again

  • The weirdest part: before this happened I had about 190 followers, but after I cleaned up the random accounts that appeared, I’m down to ~140. I don’t even know which real followers I lost.

So now I’m even more confused, no sign of unauthorized logins, yet someone clearly got in and changed things. I’ve contacted Instagram support, but I wanted to ask here too:

  • Has anyone else experienced this type of “invisible” account takeover?

  • How could this happen if I only ever use my phone, had 2FA on, and have no suspicious logins?

Any insight would help.
