I'm trying to figure out if there are any *simple* ups management tools for Windows, that can speak to a NUT daemon? From what I can see, there *is* a NUT daemon for Windows, but it is kinda complicated to install and configure.

What I am ideally looking for is something as simple as a WMI32_Battery instance, that can be configured with the address and creds of a NUT daemon, and makes that data available as a Battery. From there, built in Windows functionality can be used to determine what to do when power fails, battery gets low, etc.

which client? the win nut client is pretty straight forward to install (a .msi file) and then you just configure the username/password/address of your nut server and it connects. Once you've got that done just configure your shutdown parameters and bob's your uncle.

I tried the Windows NUT client a couple of years ago and indeed it was a PITA. I just went down that road again and wound up at WinNUT-Client. Not sure if this is the same one from a couple years ago or not, but I was up and running with this in minutes. https://github.com/gawindx/WinNUT-Client

A while back in asked about how to connect multiple computers to one UPS device (post). I received excellent advice to use a Raspberry Pi to run a NUT server to do this. I'm now the proud owner of a RPi4b 2GB ram and have installed NUT and it's working well locally thanks to this tutorial.

I'm not trying to connect it to my Windows 10 machine and I'm just having a frustrating time doing so. I've first attempted to install WinNut, even though it seems like an ancient relic. Although I'm certain my credentials are correct, I receive this error when I attempt to start it:

So instead, I installed the Binary packages for Windows and I see it's been installed but it's not running, even when I try to under some command in command prompt. I've entered my MONITOR entry and the netclient in the confg files.

At this point I'm just over my head and could use some help. I've Googled as much as I can and I just don't see any helpful guides on using NUT on Windows.

If I can get this working, I think it would be helpful to others too.

P.S. I bought a separate NETGEAR POE Switch to power the RPi with a POE hat so I had less cables going to it. The primary goal is to go from two UPS units to one for a more minimal setup. RPi has been super fun and I think these are just the darndest little machines.

I'm currently using Windows NUT Client on a Windows 10 machine. A Synology NAS is acting as the NUT server. The UPS is a Cyberpower 1500PCFLCD. It more or less works and shuts down the PC properly. https://sourceforge.net/projects/winnutclient/ Maybe this will work for you?

I hope that you were able to eventually configure NUT on Windows. If not, I would recommend trying WinNUT-Client . I had no problems getting this configured on Windows 11. The UI could use a bit of improvement and it would be nice if Windows 11 had integrated support for NUT, but it's working as expected.

Hi there.

I'm trying to get a NUT server up and running so I can start controlling my Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD and the devices attached to it and also devices attached to the network.

I'm debating just using SNMP and their cloud service ($12/year) vs doing a NUT server.

I don't want to build another physical box for the space and would love to just run it off the Windows box it's plugged into for their Powerpanel software currently. Is there a Windows Server for this or just clients?

Would it work if I spun up a VM on this Windows box? I already have an Ubuntu VM on this box for other things. I assume I'd have to route the USB device to the VM? (I use Oracle VirtualBox Manager)

You don't need a dedicated machine for NUT. NUT can communicate with UPS over SNMP, USB, and serial.

I'm debating just using SNMP and their cloud service ($12/year) vs doing a NUT server. The CP1500AVRLCD doesn't have a network connection to do that with..? At $12/year find a used Pi3 and it will pay for itself in 3 years, plus you won't be relying on a full sized computer to do NUT.

Hi all, just picked up a UPS and looking g for advice on how beat to set up NUT.

Should I configure directly on my main proxmox server, as a lxc running on proxmox,do something on the NAS or on a Pi4 which I have floating around?

Proxmox server is mains powered and would be connected directly to the UPS, while the Pi is connected to my switch and powered via POE. I know all options are possible but looking to get feedback on best practise

EDIT: All setup and running with connections into my 2 synology NAS, and monitoring using the NUT integration in Home Assistant. Next trick is to work out how to use the UPS trigger points to shutdown my other Proxmox host (runs PBS, Plex & PiHole) and Home Assistant

So you start by rubbing slowly… wait a second this is r/homelab 😂 So you can install NUT directly on Proxmox since it will be easier to control the host itself. From a container you will need to do a bunch of hacks so it will be able to shutdown the host and at that point it will just make using a container kind of pointless. Here is a simple tutorial to get you started - https://wiki.debian.org/nut Yes generally it’s recommended to not install software on the host directly, however for hardware related things and general system utilities like NUT and Sysstat this doesn’t really apply.
