I’ve recently picked up a 14700k and I’m wondering which motherboards are the way to go, or rather, which ones to avoid. Eyeing off the Z790 chipset.

Budget is $500 AUD, but would prefer not to spend any more than I have to.

I have not built a PC since my younger days probably last PC I built was in 2004ish so I’m completely out the loop starting to get back into PC gaming currently gaming on a gaming laptop, but something better for just home

I found a Intel i7-14700K 14th Gen 20-Cores LGA 1700 Desktop Processor with ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WiFi DDR5 Motherboard combo online for $570 USD I was wondering if that’s. Good price or should I keep looking? I don’t really need top-of-the-line, but I do want upgrade ability.

As of right now, the only two games that I am playing is farming simulator 25 and rust

When you put these two cpu and motherboard together on pcpartpicker it says ''Some Intel Z790 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.'' and i was wondering if anybody knows how it actually works when building with them together because i saw a video from a guy who build it and it seemed fine (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlwqmRUTSQs) so please comment if you know anything

As the title states, I want to get an i7 - 14700k to be able to overclock it slighty. I am wondering which mobo is best to get, that would preferably already support 14th gen cpu's out of the box. Any suggestions or tips?

The motherboard should have:

Bluetooth

(I dont really care if it has wifi support)

Some future proofing

ddr5 ram support.

Building a PC based around RTX4070 super and an i7 processor but a little confused about the benefits of the 14700K over 14700F

From my understanding the biggest difference seems to be that the 14700K can be overclocked while the 14700F can't but I have also seen tests where the K performs slightly better and gives a better performance but I can't seem to find any clear answer whether it is worth it for the difference in price for one who does not plan to overclock?

And as a follow on for that question I need to find a compatible motherboard but not sure if I should go for the more expensive Z790 or go with the cheaper B760 versions? Is there much benefit for those who don't plan to overclock or should I go with the cheaper versions?

Any recommendations for the MOBO? Currently thinking I will go with ASUS TUF but am open to suggestion, the motherboard must have inbuilt wifi.

Hey guys! I just want to know if there will be problems if I pair i7 14700k with a B760 motherboard (with decent heatsinks and VRMs). I know that Z boards has better power delivery and compatibility for high end processors. However, they are quite expensive here (+100$ than B760 boards). I'm thinking to buy one from the below list. Of course I won't do any overclocking stuff. I will do 3D modeling, unreal engine etc.

1. ASUS TUF GAMING B760M-PLUS (WIFI) DDR5 MOTHERBOARD (mATX and ATX both available. ATX is 50$ higher than mATX board)

2. MSI MAG B760 TOMAHAWK DDR5 Wi-Fi

3. ASUS PRIME Z690P DDR5

4. MSI Z790 GAMING PLUS WiFi DDR5
   What would you guys recommend? Should I save some and buy a Z790 instead? Thanks :)

Hi, finally I have proper board and RAM for my 14700K. Mobo is ASRock Z790 PG-ITX paired with Corsair 32GB DDR5 6400Mhz CL32.

Bench specs : I'm on custom loop, 14700K@STOCK, DDR5@6400MHz. No BIOS changes except enabling XMP & powerlimit.

Here's the new result from CB2024 & CPUZ, also a screenshot from HWInfo.

CB2024 : The multicore increased from 1223 to 1861, a huge increase in performace from upgrading the motherboard (from ASRock B660M ITX to ASRock Z790 PG-ITX) and from DDR4 2400MHz to DDR5 6400Mhz.

The single core perform within the error margin : 124 (Z790) vs 127 (B660M)

CPUZ : Multicore : 14665,8 (Z790) 12097,2 (previous result, B660M) Single core : 866,3 (Z790) 881,2 (previous result, B660M)

One thing to note, this is a DAMN HOT processor. I hit thermal limit at stock even with a Velocity2 waterblock & Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste. However incorrect waterblock installation could be possible since this is the first time I'm using that block.. I hope that is the case.

I currently have a MSI B350 PC Mate and I'm pretty certain it's not compatible with the 14th gen Intel. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B350-PC-MATE/support#cpu Intel doesn't show up on the mobo's compatibility charts, only Ryzen CPUs. Can anyone recommend a good / decent motherboard for the 14700k.

I need help deciding which intel board to get for Intel I7-14700kf and I’ve narrowed it down to these three boards.

I know there been some recent heat for ASUS but they have been solid for me for years.

I am looking to buy an msi motherboard for a i7 14700k and saw lots of z790 options but seems like some of them might require a bios update after purchased and I would like to avoid that, so that being said is there any z790 model that have pre built WiFi and won't require a bios update.

I recently bought an i7-14700k along with TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS D4 motherboard.

Before the purchase, I was aware of the recent stability problem with high-end 13th&14th gen intel CPUs. I went with 14700k anyways because I heard that new BIOS update that limits the CPU's performance will prevent it from frying itself, in exchange of some performance.

What I wasn't aware of was that the limited performance of 14700k can be lower than that of 14700, which is cheaper and has not been reported of having the issue. Moreover, the pc tech on my local PC store also told me that the problem tends to happen more on ASUS motherboards, just like the one I chose.

As I already made my purchase, what do you guys think I should do? Is using the bought 14700k and MB under the intel's new base power limit settings the best move I can take, or should I go for a refund and change to a safer option like 14700? If I am going to continue with 14700k, is there any BIOS setting that you guys recommend?

I still haven't opened both packaging at this point.

I would appreciate any advice!

I'm building a new PC, and I just bought the parts. I bought an Intel i7 14700k CPU and an MSI Z790-P WiFi mobo.

I don't want to have to upgrade the bios as it seems complicated and don't want to risk bricking my mobo. What are some good mobos to get with 14th gen CPU compatibility out of the box?

I recently posted on here that I wa plan big to upgrade my i5-4670k fairly soon and mainly thru a bundle from microcenter. Today I looked at microcenters website and they have an i7-14700k bundle with an MSI Z790 mag tomahawk and the usual 32gig of ram for $600 which is only $150 than the i7-13700k bundle! Does anyone have any experience with MSI particularly the mag tomahawk? I’ve been an Asus guy the last 1 years and have had no complaints. I ask about the MSI board cause I’ve seen a lot of people getting DOA or defective boards.i5

I am planning on upgrading to a 14900K or 14700K and researching motherboards. Currently have a 5900x for work and 5800x3d for gaming, but this build will be mainly for work. I have bought Asus mbs for the last 25+ years, Gigabyte for my last 2 builds and considering a MSI Z790 for the new build.

I create 3d models using proprietary software that is not well optimized and need as much power as possible. Planning on using x2 48GB of DDR5 for a total of 96mb, 4x4 m.2 drives and currently have a 4080 that will be used in the new build.

I have concerns regarding the intel ethernet controller and not having enough pcie lanes to use 5.0x4 m.2 and run the gpu x16. Thats about it, TIA.
