I haven't really kept up with the laptop CPU market, I can get a 4k OLED thinkpad t16 gen 3 for $880 USD w/ a Core 5 125u and 16gb ram. Thinking about picking up just as an everyday carry laptop for when I need to do some spreadsheets, emails and watching netflix. ya'll think its worth it?
Hi everyone. I’m having some issues tying to pick the best option for a T14. I’m between 2 options, a T14 4th gen with AMD and a T14 5th gen with Intel Core. My casual work concentrates primarily on programming, research, and uni courses. Some aspects I’m considering is that the T14 Intel its RAM is upgradable, in comparison with the AMD one. In terms of SSD, the Intel has 256gb and the AMD 520gb, at least in this aspect I don’t have so much issues, but I’m more focused on the RAM part. About the budget, the difference between the two is that the AMD is less expensive than the Intel’s, about 16 bucks approximately. I’m not an specialist in terms of cpus but I’m trying to consider at least a good performance, so I’ll grateful about your advices. In terms of financial, I have more payment flexitability with the Intel. p.s. it’s my first post on reddit uu

I have the thinkpad e14 g6 which I bought used. It has 16gb of ram in single-channel config. What would the benefits be if I were to add another 8gb stick to it? TYIA!
Hi guys, I'm buying a new laptop and I can't decide which of these 2 processors will be better for me. I will mainly use it for CAD design and occasionally for gaming (eg The Witcher 3). Which would you choose, assuming that price doesn't matter?
Which of these two CPUs is the better option for a laptop that will be used for internet browsing, office applications and watching films. Is there any big difference in power consumption and heat generation?
I’m really only posting this out of curiosity, but I recently bought Asus Zenbook 14 OLED with the core ultra 5. I’ve not really been too invested in the computer world since 12th gen intel, so the last things I heard was that 12 gen was hot, power inefficient, and not worth your time over AMD. Gladly, I don’t find that at all with these newer chips and am incredibly happy with the upgrade in graphics as well. So im curious as to how others feel about the Core Ultra cpus?
I was thinking of purchasing an Intel Core Ultra 5 125U CPU (1.3GHz base clock frequency, 4.3GHz boost clock, 12 cores, 14 CPU threads.) I'm not totally well-versed on processors & I need to be able to run programs like Excel & Powerpoint, as well as write papers using Word with multiple tabs open on my browser with minimal lag. I understand there are other components that determine this as well, if it helps, I have opted for a 512gb SSD and a 16gb RAM. I will be primarily doing tasks for school, streaming videos & movies, and maybe infrequent light-gaming (think programs like Minecraft).
I was considering going with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155U (1.7GHz base clock, 4.8GHz boost clock, 12 core, 14 threads) instead, but I feel that it might be too overkill for the tasks I will be using it for.
I imagine you folks are much more knowledgable with these kinds of topics than I, so any explanation/breakdown/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
It's not a desktop CPU, can't build a PC with it, so no.
Hello!
The two processors you mentioned may have other uses. We want to share a quick link to help you find the correct CPU with the correct specs. Try this link to Intel® Core™ Ultra Processors. You can view detailed specs by clicking the CPU that you are researching.
Good luck on your journey!
Hey!
I need a (windows) laptop for school, and I believe I’ve settled for the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 5. My father‘s been using ThinkPads for a long time and has never had a bad experience with them. They have good build quality, a touchscreen (optional, but something I’ll definitely add on) and solid battery life.
For school, we won’t be using any computing intensive software and I will not be doing any gaming (I just don’t like gaming, sorry!). We will be using math programs like PTC Mathcad and GeoGebra, and maybe some light 3d stuff. Additionally, I might want to get into Blender in the future, so it’d be nice to have so headroom there. I’d like for this machine to last a couple of years, which is why I’m choosing the Gen 5 (less than 4 months old at a respectable price).
Do I need a CPU upgrade? Computing-wise I believe I’ll be fine either way, the longevity aspect is the one I’m focusing on. The „base“ i5 should be fine I believe, what are your opinions?
Side note: I’m very tech savvy (mostly regarding apple stuff, that’s why I’m making this post) — it’s 70€/$70 for preinstalles windows. Installing windows isn’t that hard, no? Just create a bootable drive and then load windows from there, right? I believe the price just isn’t worth it for me… I’ll be able to do this on my own, no?
Thank you!
I am eyeing this laptop
https://ca.msi.com/Business-Productivity/Prestige-14-AI-Studio-C1UX/Specification
To me it has EVERYTHING, at least on paper. Big battery, small and portable (not ultra light but lets be reasonable), wifi 7, upgradable RAM
The one downside
it has an Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 - 125H
My uses:
Youtube and multiple tabs browsing (I mean dozens)
some programming
Desktop applications like Notion, whatsapp, zoom
Basic gaming and occasional open world gaming (Think witcher 3, Oblivion, Star wars Fallen order)
If I am honest, I do not play proper games much but id like to have the option. I mainly want a compact laptop I can have with me without charger for a decent amount of time but also have some gaming available.
So that CPU gonna be enough? Any benchmark websites you like to use for checks?
Hi everyone.
I am looking at updating my laptop, and was wondering if anyone was using a Core Ultra 5 125U and what the performance was like. For example, how long does it take to export 100 Raw 25MP pictures into JPG with minimal processing. any indications would be helpful. Thanks
I want to get a laptop for office work and might get into video editing in future i am confused between two laptops which are hp pavillion 16 ultra 5 or lenovo ideapad slim 5 ultra 5 processor please suggest me
Hello everyone, i am new to posting things please don't mind my bad English and grammer.
everything was fine till this evening then Valo stopped working, tomb raider 2015 , it shows error code 43 in device manager under device adapters.
i have tried everything updating the drivers and everything.
The graphics thingy doesn't even show graphics card and all in the task manager.
for context my laptop is a HP ENVYx360 16", intel core ultra 5 125u and 16 gigs of ram.
My current driver version. My task manager. The mssg i get whenever i try to open a game. Device manager.I want to buy the new HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop that comes either with the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS or the Intel Core Ultra 5 125U. Can you help me pick? Which CPU is better and why?

Is the core ultra 5 a good cpu in terms of efficiency, performance and staying cool
I was thinking of purchasing a Lenovo Yoga 7i with the Intel Core Ultra 5 125U CPU (1.3GHz base clock frequency, 4.3GHz boost clock, 12 cores, 14 CPU threads.) I'm not totally well-versed on processors & I'm looking for a decent CPU to have for college. I'm majoring in economics & finance, so I need to be able to run programs like Excel & Powerpoint, as well as write papers using Word with multiple tabs open on my browser with minimal lag. I was considering going with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U version (1.7GHz base clock, 4.8GHz boost clock, 12 core, 14 threads) instead, however, I don't know if it would be necessary for my needs, as I won't be doing any complex video editing, coding, or heavy gaming. I'm on a limited budget as a student, and I don't really want to be paying for more than I need. I will be primarily doing tasks for school, streaming videos & movies, and maybe infrequent light-gaming (think programs like Minecraft).
I imagine you folks are much more knowledgable with these kinds of topics than I, so any explanation/breakdown/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

its a brand new modern cpu should be fine.
you could go with an expensive laptop if you wanted. none of those programs need high specs.
Hi all, I'm trying to help a colleague who wants to buy a new "mid-range" laptop at the max price of 1000€ (approx. 1050$).
Not long ago I bought a laptop for my GF who had a similar price limit as above, so I chose Lenovo ThinkBook G7 (R7 7735HS, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD edition) for her and she's totally happy with it, but I'm a bit skeptical about recommending Ryzen to other people as it has some slow boot issues due to DDR5 RAM (I know it can be tweaked) - I also have the same issue on my PC with R5 7600X in comparison with my work PC that has i5 13500.
I started "scanning the market" again and the most common processors in this price range are:
-
Intel Core i5 1335U
-
Intel Core 5 Ultra 120U/125U
-
Ryzen 5 7535HS
-
Ryzen 7 7735HS (a bit pricier)
so I'm wondering which of these processors is the best choice for someone who mostly browses the internet, watches videos, uses MS Office and other light tasking? I want the processor to be more future proof, so she can use the laptop for some time, and that the laptop runs smoothly.
Will she even notice any difference between Core 5 Ultra processor and those Ryzens?
Thanks for your help!
