I’m looking to get a new computer and I’m trying to decide between two same priced options except one has an ultra core 5 and the other core 7. They both have 16 GB ram. I’ve had a core i5 until now and that’s mostly been enough for me. I would like to upgrade in the graphics area a little with this next computer. Ik the ultra core 5 has an Intel arc graphics unit in it whereas the core 7 would have more processing power but just the regular integrated graphics. Idk which one would be better overall.
The only program I use that would push my computers limits is some CAD software like solidworks or onshape. The both ran and were usable on my old device that had the i5 but I would like it to run a little better on my next one. The reason I’m not looking at any options with a dedicated gpu is because at the price I’m looking at, the ones with gpus only have 8 GB of RAM, which might be a bottle neck. And I’m not comfortable with opening it up and adding more RAM myself.
So basically yeah, I’m guessing in applications purely about processing power, the core 7 would be better. Most of my time is spent on chrome, just reading, browsing or watching stuff. But in a use case like CAD, idk which cpu would be better.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Currently looking for a new laptop and trying to get my head around these processers.
Which one is better? Intel Core i5, i7 etc or Intel Core Ultra 5, 7 etc?
In laymans terms, what's the difference between them both?

How big of a difference is the core 5 ultra to a core 7 ultra in terms of performance, is it actually noticeable and are the effects present if youre using your system mostly for daily tasks and the occasional bit of light gaming? and is there anything to note on the future proofing and viability of either processor for lets say the next 4 years at least? if you were to quantify it into money how much of an increase would you be willing to pay for exactly the same system with the only difference being the core 5 ultra to the 7 ultra.
I'm a business/marketing college student, and was looking to get a HP Omnibook X Flip 2-1 as best buy has a pretty good deal.
I would primarily use it for school, some image design/photoshop for marketing courses, and eventually corporate career, and also streaming and web surfing. I do tend to leave a bit of tabs open but I'm pretty sure the 16 gbs of ram can handle it.
Was just wondering if the performance between the two processors in these options would be noticeable, or if it's even worth having for me considering the $100 difference. Would also be open to recs for other laptops for around 600 and under. Was also looking at the Asus zenbook a14 but unfamiliar with snapdragon as opposed to windows.
Thank you in advance for all insight, advice, and opinions!
hi guys, im thinking of buying a laptop and i saw that laptops with everything the same except the cpu which is i7 13th gen and core ultra 5 so what should i buy or what is better? note that the core ultra 5 laptop costs more by 150$ so is it worth it?
thx
Are laptops with Intel I5 enough for Microsoft 365 like words and excels? Does laptop brand matter with same processor?

I'm thinking about getting the Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5i for university and office stuff at home. either with the Intel Core Ultra 5 or Ultra 7. What do you think?
Hey
I m considering buying a laptop for college early because I am getting much better deals on it on Black Friday. I was researching some basic requirements so that when I go to college, I don't have to buy a new one because my current laptop is not compatible to the programs I need to run. I was looking at some computers that have
- 16 GB RAM
- 1 TB storage
- Windows 11
- Intel Core Ultra 7 processor
In these computers I couldn't find I one with an Intel Core i7 processor which is one recomended for a Biology Major. Is the ultra 7 similar? Will the programs that need i7 run on an Ultra 7?
Sorry for the long post
Thank you!
Hello guys I am looking to buy a laptop and i found a laptop which has all the specs I need but the processor is core i7 but my preference is for ai laptops with Core Ultra 7 lunar lake. Should I take it? Or am I gonna regret my decision?
What all would I lose if I end up buyin it?
Im buiding a new gaming PC which will have RTX 5070 and 32GB DDR5 memory, but can't decide which CPU to choose.
The Ultra 5 245 is at the same price as I7 14700, and the i7 has 20 cores. But it is a buying older gen CPU.
AMD gen 9 cpu's are not relevant because they are much expensive here.
I will be playing on 2K monitor.
What is recommended between both CPU's
Hello everyone, I was planning on upgrading my PC.
Short background - I built my first dream PC last pandemic (2020). Motherboard is ROG Strix Z490-E, CPU is i5-10500, GPU is 2060 super and RAM is DDR4 32GB (16x2). Up until now, it's still the exact same core hardwares I have.
What made me think upgrading - As time pass by, games started to be more demanding with power. I also stream most of the time and I experience drop of frames issue due to my processor is having a hard time processing all things at one (that I don't even experience back then, 2020-2024). So what I'm assuming is my core hardwares are being left out.
Games that I play and tasks that I do - I often stream and play Apex Legends. But I also play variety of games. To be specific, I'm lagging in some games like Demonologist. I also often run Roblox in my background (just AFK farming games). Sometimes I can play games like Apex Legends while rendering a video in Sony Vegas, but the frame drop is significant so I think it would be great to have a component that will allow me to multitask rendering and playing games.
Now going with my title - Back then (2020), there's no such thing as Ultra in Intel. So I'm pretty new to this. I haven't researched that much yet about Intel's new products, basically my mind is still in pandemic days where you only need to choose between i5, i7 and i9, and the generations it offers.
My questions are:
- I was wondering if this Ultra 7 is good for streaming and gaming? I heard some CPU are not made for gaming (such as Ryzen's threadripper). I'm assuming that Ultra 7 isn't simillar with this threadripper no?
- If Ultra 7 is good, are there better options (Intel products) who offers nearly the same power and cheaper option? (maybe like i9 and some sort of that)
- I'm trying to weigh things out whether if it's worthy or not, to add a little bit of money for a product that is almost has the same power the other products offer.
Budget that I do have in mind - Was trying to keep it moderate (perhps $1k-$2k for the main components like RAM, CPU, MOBO). If ever that I have to exceed and really go crazy with the budget, I will take my time to save up money if it's really necessary. But just like what I've said, cheaper options that gives almost the same power seems great.
Reasons why I'm asking for opinion and feedbacks - I'm planning to decide what CPU should I get, so I can start looking for a motherboard. Just trying to follow the pre-requisites and making sure that the CPU will fit the socket. Thanks everyone.
generally does the difference between intel i7 and i5 make a lot of difference or is it negligible amounts of improvement from i5 to i7
i should probably know this since Ive built my own PC twice now, but to be honest Ive never really looked in to what the big difference is, but I keep seeing various responses from different posts here n there saying that an i5 is better for gaming but an i7 is best for all around performance or maybe I have that backwards, but basically I want to know what the difference is, and what would be best for what I want, because Im looking to upgrade soon and maybe Ive just set up my PC wrong but Im pretty sure my gpu is being bottlenecked by my current setup (current being: Win10, i7-9700k, Gigabyte Z390 ultra atx, rtx 3070, 32gb RAM, with a triple fan 360mm radiator cpu liquid cooler), and Im not overclocked, but I feel like im not getting the “stellar performance” I kinda assumed I would get from what I have. Thanks!
I need workstation and gaming pc and price around $350, so I found only these two options, so what should I pick?
