So I bought this NUC7 from eBay and I’ve been unable to get it to boot from usb drive or anything. I installed new ram and SSD. Before it kept saying “ unable to boot from disc” then I managed to see this screen.
Again this was purchased on eBay. Is this fixable?

Turn it on, wait for splash screen (Intel logo) to appear, start smashing F2 so you don’t miss it, and this will bring you into the BIOS setup menu. From here you can change all BIOS settings. Navigate to Boot > Secure Boot and look for a little checkbox beside a setting called Secure Boot. Uncheck the box, then press F10 to save settings and exit. This will reboot the unit. Secure Boot is a Microsoft developed tool to help prevent booting of unwanted (unsigned) operating systems. Most Windows versions have a signature hidden in the BIOS that allows booting of Windows OS, and some Linux kernels are supported too. It’s basically just another security measure on your NUC that is now standard across almost every consumer PC these days.

January 27, 2024 - I am wondering if any has successfully performed a clean install of Proxmox 8.1 on an Intel NUC 13th gen with secure boot enabled? I was attempting to set up a new cluster this morning but upon trying to boot from the USB installer, I am getting a "Secure Boot Violation, Invalid signature detected" error

Hello,
I got myself a new NUC (10i7) and then I tried to install Proxmox I got the following message:
Secure Boot Violation
Invalid Signature Detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup
I guess I can change this setting in BIOS, but am I doing something wrong? how do I proceed form here? should I change something into the iso image?

Hello!
I am using a Nuc8i5BE Nuc. With my privious BIOS, 0097, the new MS-Secure-Boot-Certificates from 2023 were not present. So I updated to 0098 which is surprisingly available since April.
Unfortunately there is still no sign of the new certificates even after selecting Force Secure Boot Defaults in the Bios.
What am I making wrong here?
PS: The other suggestes way, setting a registry key and then starting the Secure-Boot-Update-Service does not work either.

It wasn't my NUC but on a Dell machine I had to reset some other BIOS settings before the new certs were visible to the OS. Simply going to default settings did not update. I was trying everything but don't remember what finally let the certs appear.

In my testing, BECFL357.86A.0098.EB supports the Windows UEFI CA 2023 certificate, but not the Microsoft Corporation KEK 2K CA 2023 cert. The registry keys will never reflect that the update finished because of this. The following PowerShell command will return True if the new cert is present in the active Secure Boot db: ([System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI db).bytes) -match 'Windows UEFI CA 2023') Ideally having both loaded would be ideal, but I'm taking what I can get with the CA cert being supported given the age of these devices. FYI for my fellow sysadmins out there, this express BIOS update EXE can be silently installed with the -s flag... not documented anywhere.

April 23, 2024 - Hello I’m fcaing an issues while trying to boot Home Assistant Operating System (HAOS) on my NUC11. Check below- Installed the HAOS image onto a 1TB M.2 drive using Balena Etcher. Installed the M.2 drive into the NUC following a guide I found. Upon booting the NUC, I’m greeted with a “Secure Boot Violation” warning, followed by a message stating “No boot device detected.” I’m not seeing any BIOS prompt at all.

I'd like to install Proxmox on an Intel NUC (NUC6i7KYK) but the GUI never comes up. I updated the BIOS and reset to defaults. Then I disabled secure boot and booted from a Proxmox 6 installer USB. I always got an error `Installation aborted - unable to continue (type exit or CTRL-D to reboot)`. Any idea what caused this?

Edit: issue resolved.
I'd like to document the troubleshooting process and hopefully it might be helpful to some.
The first thing I did is to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version -> did not work.
Then I disabled the WiFi card in BIOS -> did not work.
Then I added boot options as suggested on this page -> did not work.
Then I switched to a Thunderbolt to DP cable instead of an HDMI cable -> did not work.
Then I tried other USB drives -> did not work.
Finally, I tried another 1080p monitor (acer R240HY) instead of a 21:9 ultrawide (LG 34UC98) while keeping other things as the original setup -> SUCCESS!
