How astronauts sleep on the ISS
Former ISS Flight Controller here: Every astronaut has his own "sleeping quarters." It's about the size of a large refrigerator and holds all of the personal items, sleeping bag, a computer for private conferences with family or e-mail checking (and Reddit in Mr. Hadfield's case) and yes, fans to circulate the air. Every sleeping quarter also has a window, it has a cover. There are multiple windows on board, for example, two in the Japanese module, one in the US Lab, the Cupola, and one in the Russian service module. They do dim the lights at "night" on ISS, as well as turning off all of the onboard cameras, so that the astronauts have privacy. They operate on GMT time. Btw, there has been a Korean woman onboard the ISS, she flew up in the extra seat that the Soyuz capsule had before the Space Shuttle retired.
