It just keeps your motherboard safe and its another barrier for dust, just be careful plugging things into the back and you'll be fine without it

You'll just have to dust your PC more than often. I want to say it partially helps with preventing static discharge since it makes the case and connections make good contact. My friend ran his for a while with no issues besides dusting. His IO also had a cover on the motherboard portion so that kind of helped the dusting part.

It's simply for covering the back of the computer, and for shielding your inputs and outputs from being jarred around and damaged when you're plugging in and unplugging things. Some people on this thread seem confused. Because it has "shield" in the name, people think it's shielding against current or EMF. It has nothing whatsoever to do with current, or EMF interfering with radios or anything else. I use radios, I also have no covers on my computer, side front or back. To add to that, the radio I have right now is inside my computer. It's really only aesthetic, there to look good because as a shield for your inputs and outputs most of them are fairly useless without being actually attached to the board and solid rather than thin and flimsy.

Learning a lot on my first (and very arduous 😂😂) build.
I realized yesterday that the pre installed io shield is preventing my motherboard with lining up with my case. I opted for a new motherboard for other reasons, but for my next install, am I supposed to push the integrated IO shield in until it “snaps” into place like a regular IO shield ? Or is it just supposed to press against the chassis?
Also WHY DONT MOTHERBOARD MANUFACTURERS HAVE TUTORIALS FOR THE INSTALLATION INTO THE CASE?! Especially for specific models. Wouldn’t be too difficult.
The motherboard I’m getting is the Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite AX for AM5, if anyone has any experience with this board or boards like it please let me know how you went about the IO shield.
Any help is IMMENSELY appreciated ! :)

No, the I/O shield that comes as part of your motherboard and is not removeable does not snap into the case exactly the same as a separate I/O shield. Mostly, they simply sit in the opening, flush with the case,but they don't snap into place with a bit of force needed like normal motherboard I/O shields. If your motherboards built in/attached I/O shield doesn't line up, there's some other issue. Make sure you only have the stand offs installed that you need for your particular motherboard. Not all motherboards use all stand off positions. Make sure your case doesn't come with a "peg" style stand off that isn't lined up with a mount hole in your motherboard. And finally, check that there isn't something holding your motherboard up/out of position from the I/O shield lining up with the opening for it. Take your time, look, and look again. Trial fit, look, trial fit again. Computer parts are made to standardized dimensions so they all work together. There can be some variance, but its usually not so much that parts don't actually fit.

Mine doesn't. It just sits against it, there's no latching mechanism like with detached IO shields.

Yeah most motherboards these days come with the IO shield preinstalled. Those were the days. Nothing like fiddling with a cheap crap PC case and nicking yourself in the process with those IO shields.
