Good morning.

I have a picture linked of my recent build of a MSI B450 Tomahawk Max installed into a Cooler Master Masterbox K501L. As you can see the BIOS Flash BIOS Button and USB ports seem out of alignment and slightly raised. I have checked and the motherboard is secured firmly to the stand offs. All the stand offs were pre installed in the case. The IO shield is secured in place correctly.

What could be the issue here? Any idea. I would rather not take apart the PC and fix, yet if I have to I will.

I spend the last week trying to insert my GTX 1080 into my case no matter how hard i pushed or wiggled the gpu would always be partially outside the slot. Now i noticed that the standoffs and the io shield don't align. I was wondering if this was really the case and if it's the case what should i do? replace the standoffs with ones that align with the IO shield?

(ones installed are the ones that came with the pc when i bought it used and the IO shield is inserted correctly)

I bought a new pc yesterday and I‘m assembling it Right now. But this motherboard and I/O Shield Drive me crazy. It‘s an ASUS Prime Z690-P and the case is an bequiet! Base 500DX.

I‘m not able to post an image, so I only can geschrien my problem.

Everything line up perfect except the two USB and PS/2 ports. These Are higher and I can‘t put an USB device into it.

Maybe someone can help me?

UPDATE #2:

Talked to ASUS component support and they want me to attempt to return the board to the retailer, even if it is a manufacturing defect. At this point I'll probably just jump to a different motherboard from a different manufacturer. Thanks everyone for your help.

Installed a new MB on a new build. MB is an ASUS Z97-a-USB3.1. The I/O shield does not line up with the motherboard. I'm using a Full ATX ThermalTake chassis (Core_V71). Other ATX boards and shields line up just fine. The z97-a/usb3.1 is attached to the correct standoffs, and the stand offs are in the chassis correctly.

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

I'm unable to install the shield and motherboard unless one of the DVI nuts is removed. Once installed, I'm unable to connect HDMI or Display Port cables.

I contacted ASUS support and they recommend I make sure the chassis and MB are compatible, and if they are, I should contact their store to purchase a new shield.

Will update with a picture at first chance. Imagine the top edge of the display port and hdmi ports being slitly covered, enough to make them unusable.

The last motherboard to fit into this case was an earlier model Z97-A. Currently researching if it is within retailers (Fry's) return policy, but believe it is too late for that option.

I currently am starting my first ever pc build, my case is the Corsair 3500x and my motherboard is the msi pro b650m-a WiFi.

I have tried everything to aline the io of the motherboard with the shield but for some reason it just doesn’t work. Does anyone have any tips 😭😭

You can see from the image the usb ports are blocked by the little metal arm thingys.

It's my first time build a pc, I got the MSI B660 Tomahawk motherboard with the Lian Li Lancool 215 case. Got to the point where I need to put the motherboard in the case. The io shield doesn't quite line up right on the case, (hard to see) it is crooked and it doesn't go all the way against the case to be flush. It is not getting stuck on the fan but this means the screws do not line up. The io shield is connected to the motherboard.

Please help I spent 7 hours researching this and found nobody else with the same issue. They were all related to standoff screws being put in wrong.

When I go in to place the motherboard it doesn't seem to go low enough to fit the ports into the i/o shield. The standoffs don't seem to go in the case all the way and are at slightly different heights when I screw them in.
The motherboard doesn't seem to line up with the standoffs near the bottom either even though I have them in the correct positions.

I recently put together a new desktop. My case is corsair 100r, and my motherboard is asus prime z490-p. I've booted up and everything is stable and without problem. However at the back the motherboard doesn't line up with the IO shield properly. Only ports on one side smoothly go in. images

I've tried adjusting standoffs, tightening one and loosening the other (slightly) to no avail. I suspect maybe the ground prongs are stuck in the HDMI port as shown in the images?

Hello everybody - I'm currently building my PC but I've stumbled upon an issue with my motherboard and its IO shield alignment. While I understand that there have been many threads regarding the alignment of the motherboard and its IO shield but the threads that I have seen seem to have a different problem to mine.

While others may have their motherboard too low for the IO shield (which is usually fixed by adding the appropriate standoffs to increase the height of the motherboard; mine seems to be the opposite - where my motherboard seems to high for the IO shield. While most of the ports can be used, a few (especially the bios button and the usb slots directly beneath) can't. I have mounted the motherboard correctly, with all the standoffs in the correct location and the screws in. The motherboard seems to be attached appropriately.

I've already tried moving the standoffs around, raising the height of the standoffs (by loosening them - not a good idea). The image is what it looks like when the standoffs are tightened. The alignment of the holes for the motherboard and the standoffs are also fine - but the problem remains.

The IO shield itself seems to be fitted in correctly, I snapped all four corners in, and it fits properly. The motherboard is pushed down as far as I dare go. I've not tried the method of mounting it without the standoffs as I'm afraid of damaging my motherboard.

For context purposes, I'm trying to fit an MSI B450M Mortar Max into a Cooler Master NR600 case. I've spent many hours on this today alone and I'm getting flustered. Halp..

But as of now (thanks to the suggestions by the community) I suspect that my solution is to somehow find shorter standoffs. I know they can be found on amazon and ebay - but the shipping time is not very nice. I suspect that this standoff is the one that is causing problems.

After speaking to Cooler Master's support (and have them go through this reddit page) my problem is finally solved! The solution to this is to NOT install the two tall standoffs. Whilst initially I assumed they were slightly taller to act as a pilot guide for the motherboards placement, it looks like they were the ones causing the issue. So thank you to all that helped! You guys rock!
