You don't put the shield on by hand. You pop it in to the back of the case first. Once you pop in place, and put the motherboard inside the case and get it all screwed down it'll fit perfectly. Answer from SilentBobVG on reddit.com

r/buildapc on Reddit: [Troubleshooting] IO Shield doesn't seem to fit and won't snap
March 16, 2020 -

I'm trying to install my IO shield and it doesn't look like it fits into the gap for it. I'm using the Gigabyte H110m-a motherboard and a Cooler Master N200. I can only get the bottom corners to snap if the top corners are unsnapped and vice versa. Please help, it's my first time building and I have no idea what to do.

I'm installing an asus b550 Rog Strix F into a Thermaltake suppressor F31. I've tried pushing as hard as I can against the IO Shield slot, but it won't go in. Is it fine to just leave the IO shield touching the slot and screwing in the standoffs that align with the screwholes?

December 23, 2022 - It’s supposed to be a tight fit and literally “pop” into place, but you’re supposed to push along the edges. No real way to fix this unless you take off your mobo and io shield and bend it back to shape.

My io shield bulges in the middle, is this normal :: Hardware and Operating Systems
Or like a part that's actually connected pre-attached to the motherboard? ^This. If it just thin mental that clip to the case for connection slots on the board then didn't push in all the way, or didn't line up things and thin mental being pushed nothing to worry really.

June 12, 2021 - Try pushing the backplate in and remove it all as once piece, it should pop right out ... Plus it looks like the VGA screws are interfering with the IO plate, you can see the one for sure is slightly covering the plate · It’s a simple removal ...

April 15, 2018 - I don't blame you for being careful, the i/o shields seem really fragile. Just put the pressure onto the outer rim of the shield and you should be fine. ... Yeah, push harder. 😀 ... I've been noticing this more lately too.

When the IO shield is fitted you won't face the 1-2 mm offset issue (as it won't block the motherboard anymore). ... I ended up pushing in the middle and it seemed to pop into place again?

Answer (1 of 2): It’s meant to prevent you from missing a port (and maybe sticking a plug into somewhere dangerous). Make sure the steel plate doesn’t touch any circuits and it should be safe to leave it that way, but fixing only takes unplugging the PC from the mains, open the case and ...

November 16, 2019 - Haha. I wonder if certain mobo manufacturers / cases are more difficult than others. I've only used nzxt/ fractal cases with asus shields and they just needed a bit of pushing before they popped in and that was it

I'm trying to build my first PC, but after installing everything on my motherboard, I encountered this problem. My Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite won't fit properly in my Thermaltake H200. It should fit perfectly, but it seems like something is restraining it. What's the best thing I could do?

r/buildapc on Reddit: [Troubleshooting] My IO Shield refuses to attach to the case
July 20, 2016 -

I have a NZXT 210 Source (Not an elite) case and I cannot get the IO shield on. Every tutorial I watch they just pop it in but that is not the case with my case/

It's extremely frustrating that such as small thing is stopping me from finishing the build.

Fixed the problem with the IO so all is well, now when I go to start the VGA LED is red and stays like that.

Is this something to do with power ?

For the Mobo's 8 pin power slot I had no wires that fit the required slots so I just plugged in one of the two wires. Is this okay?

[SOLVED] - IO Shield not lined up, motherboard won't come off, what do I do? | Tom's Hardware Forum
February 14, 2019 - So I immediately went to pull the motherboard out and re-set it correctly around the shield, like I know I'm supposed to do, when the second problem hits: the top screw closest to the I/O shield appears to be stripped into the standoff. (If looking at the board flat on the table from the side of the I/O ports, it would be the closest left one.)
