I recently upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 17, and I've encountered an issue with Apple Pay that's been driving me crazy. I'm hoping someone here might have some insights or solutions to share.
When I attempt to use Apple Pay, everything seems to work as expected initially. I hover my phone over the contactless reader, and I can see my credit card on the screen, just as I would anticipate. However, the problem arises when my phone prompts me to "hold near the reader" – it never triggers the wireless payment. I've never had an issue with this in the past and I've tried at over 5 places.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
Tried Different Cards: I attempted to use different credit cards with Apple Pay to rule out card-specific issues, but the problem persists.
Deleted and Readded Main Card: To ensure it wasn't a problem specific to my primary card, I deleted it from Apple Pay and added it back, but still no luck.
Despite these efforts, I'm stuck with a non-functional Apple Pay, and it's becoming quite inconvenient.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with their iPhone 15 Pro or iOS 17? If you have any suggestions or solutions, please share them. I'm eager to get this sorted out and make my Apple Pay work seamlessly again as I use it almost everyday.
[Updated] went into the Apple Store yesterday. The diagnostics they ran on the device didn’t report any issues however when he tested the NFC reader it failed. I have an appt scheduled later this week.

My Apple Pay for my banks debit card is not working, only when I try to tap at places. It’s attempting to process and gets declined.
I can order stuff online with Apple Pay and add cash to my Apple wallet with this debit card I just can’t tap. It’s happening at multiple stores.
Has anyone else had this issue or have any suggestions to fix it? I called Apple support and they said they’ll call me back in 72 hours and didn’t help at all. Hoping someone else had this issue and can solve it for me faster.
Edit: I have tried reading the card to my wallet multiple times, and like I said the physical debit card is working so it’s not just my bank declining the purchase.
Originally they said the merchant was having trouble processing it when I try to purchase stuff at my job, but they restarted the machines at my job and it’s still having this issue. It’s also getting declined at other stores I found out last night when I tried to buy something at the dollar store. I added Apple Cash from this debit card in the wallet app and it worked completely fine. Just tap wasn’t working.
My bank also said I didn’t have a card set up in Apple Pay when I called the second time, but it was working for Apple cash and everything. I set it back up again anyways with them and still isn’t working.
There is no physical damage on my phone either except normal wear and tear scratches maybe. But no cracks or anything.
Edit2: I have since then opened another bank account with a different bank and that card works perfectly fine on Apple Pay which makes me believe it’s my specific banks fault but they keep denying it. I’ve since gave up and have a MagSafe wallet for when I want to use that card.
I had also got a brand new card, number and all and it’s still having the issue which is why I think it’s my banks fault.
I'm on iOS 17 and sometimes when I'm trying to pay at a terminal in a cafe or store, Apple Pay does nothing. I activate Apple Pay with the side button, it reads my Face ID, and the screen changes to "Hold near reader". In most cases, it works as expected but sometimes nothing happens no matter how I place the phone on the terminal. Activating Apple Pay again, or choosing another card doesn't help. Today I couldn't pay with my phone at a restaurant and had to pay with the Apple Watch (same terminal, same transaction, same card).
I signed out from my iCloud, removed all the cards, and added them again, but the issue persists. Going to the Apple Store tomorrow to hopefully get my device tested.
Has anyone else experienced this?
UPD: Went to the Apple Store, and they ran device diagnostics. The report said that every component in my iPhone was working properly. Then they brought an NFC device and the iPhone reacted to it without any delay each time (we tried it ~6 times with short breaks in between). I was told that the problem was most likely with software. Yesterday I made around 4-5 purchases in different stores and Apple Pay worked perfectly. Today it didn't work at a supermarket on the first try, but worked after I triggered Apple Pay with the side button again. I'm thinking of erasing the phone to factory settings and testing Apple Pay without restoring my iCloud backup, just to see if the issue persists.
