I have always used Advanced IP Scanner if I was in a situation where I just needed to do a quick scan of the network.
We already have paid enterprise programs we use, but just wanted to start a discussion on what the general favorite software in the type of situations where you just need to download something to a clients computer for a quick scan.
These are the ones I am aware of and have used myself in the past but usually just end up going to Advanced IP Scanner.
If there is anything out there that is similar, but has more features - especially the ability to grab stuff like workstation model's serial numbers, hardware info etc.
Again, we have multiple paid tools that does all of this and even have them synced to ITGlue. But always nice to have a free tool in these one-off situations.

Without adding a site to RMM, I am looking for a "portable" tool to scan a potential customers network for windows applications, windows versions, patch levels etc. Something that can be quickly configured, used for a day, export data or a report and reconfigured for the next site. Ideally I would run this in a VM on my laptop while onsite.
I help out with a local organization and so I have a budget of zero. I suspect something got infected, but I'm having trouble isolating it. I'd like to know what devices are connected to the LAN (wired and wifi), but I don't have any tools for scanning the LAN for connected devices. Is there an open source tool out there that will tell me device addresses (at least)?
At the moment, I can get a list of wifi devices that claim a DHCP address from off the router. I think I've got a complete list of wired devices (unplug them from the switch, see which ones complain, etc.). However, I suspect I'm missing something. It would be nice to see what a network scanner would come up with.
My nightmare scenario is Wireshark, but I'm getting to that point. If you know of something, can you help a nerd out?
