If you want Magic Keyboard vibes for less, go Logitech. The Combo Touch hits the sweet spot, smart connector (no charging), backlit keys, solid trackpad, detachable keyboard, and better day-to-day protection than Apple’s folio. r/ipad on Reddit: Best iPad Air case that has a keyboard and still allows you to draw?

I use my apple pen a lot to annotate my work because I prefer it. My current case is the typical tri-foldable one that elevates the iPad slightly so I can write better, with no keyboard.

But I was thinking of upgrading to a case with a keyboard as I type as well. But most of the cases with keyboards are inconvenient for annotating comfortably. Pls share some advice if you have any :)

I just bought the Apple “Smart Keyboard Folio” yesterday from my nearest Apple Store. Actually, I bought 2 of them. Both for 11” iPad Air M2s. I read that the larger 12.9” Keyboard Folio fits the new 13” Air as well. One was for my wife, and one my 9 year old daughter. Neither need a trackpad, but want a keyboard. My wife would have been happy with a Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case (she’s replacing a Surface Go 3), but this is the best case for using as a tablet or laptop. The Magic Keyboard is the opposite I suppose it’s nice if you want a true laptop replacement, but it’s not if you want to use it like a tablet on the couch. The Smart Keyboard Folio is much lighter weight, the keyboard is water-proof, sturdy, long-lasting, and cheaper. It takes up a smaller footprint on a desk, and if you have a bluetooth mouse, great! I almost bought a 3rd Smart Keyboard Folio for my son, who is 6 now but will want an iPad in 3 years. I figured they’d probably fit the 7th 11” iPad Air M3 or M4, but even if they don’t, I’d just get one of the remaining iPad Air M2s and sit on it for awhile. 😅

I really like the magic keyboard pro but sadly the Air 13” 2024 model doesn’t work with it. I like it because of the bigger trackpad and the iPad lock button. it’s not something that would motivate me to spend an extra £500+ for it though. I don’t need Pro iPad features (although Face ID is cool). Shame nobody else has done their own version with a bigger trackpad than the apple version with extra features.

First time buying an iPad and not sure what case and keyboard I now need. Obviously I want a cover to protect it but when I look online there’s so many different options it’s a mindfield 🙈 do I need the apple Smart Folio case or will an Amazon similar one be ok? And for a keyboard is it a magic or Smart Keyboard and is that a whole separate case then?

r/ipad on Reddit: I highly recommend the ESR keyboard case for the iPad Air.

I was able to snag a brand new one for $55 on Facebook marketplace but I’d pay full price for it. Key travel is excellent and keys are clicky, trackpad is responsive, love the backlit keys, battery life seems great. My favorite part about this is that the iPad itself is in a case that you can remove from the keyboard if you want to use it in your hands. Very satisfied with ESR products…I’ve had other ESR cases in the past and they never disappoint. In my particular case I have the M2 13” Air, but they make this case for the pro models as well as the base iPad. Highly recommend!

r/ipad on Reddit: Is it worth getting the Magic Keyboard for an 11" iPad Air M3?
November 4, 2025 -

Hi iPad-People,

I have an iPad Air M3 and would like to use it more often for writing on the go. I was thinking about getting the new black version of the Magic Keyboard but the price...I´m not sure, it's like almost 70% of the amount I paid for the iPad a few months ago. :D

So my question is, for an entry level iPad like mine, is it worth spending that amount on a magic keyboard? Especially for the 11" version? Ist the screen big enough for writing more then 5 sentences? Would you buy it or have done it?

Thanks!

Do you recommend the Magic Keyboard? I’ve tried it and I’m impressed. I want to use for writing emails on gmail app, use Microsoft office for studies for assignments and my full time job. Sheets works perfectly on my iPad so I’m happy with that personally. Zoom calls for online classes while making notes. It would be easier as I commute a lot to appointments for evaluations of clients properties to make notes as well rather than bringing a MacBook everywhere with me. I feel it will cater more for my lifestyle especially also I travel sometimes as well. I even intentionally configured to 256GB as that’s enough for my games etc. I like iPadOS as it’s not all over the place and stage manager. I think it can really work really nicely for me, especially as an alternative laptop.

r/ipad on Reddit: iPad Air 13in case compatibility with Magic Keyboard
February 8, 2024 -

Purchased 13in iPad Air, pencil, and keyboard. I’m looking for some extra protection for the device that is still compatible with the magnetic keyboard. The pencil pro charges on top of the device so ideally a case that will let it charge. Options for quality cases are scarce. I will be buying a sleeve alongside the case but I would love extra protection. I want the ability to remove the iPad from the keyboard (for ease of use, prefer to write notes on portrait mode) and not fear scratches. Any recommendations?

The 5 Best iPad Keyboard Cases of 2026 | Reviews by Wirecutter
November 26, 2025 - Apple’s Smart Keyboard is still available for the iPad (7th-, 8th-, and 9th-generation), the iPad Air (3rd-generation), and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and it provides a solid, comfortable typing surface. It’s much more expensive than other cases but offers enough to justify its price.

I’m trying to choose a case for when I get an iPad Air M2, but I, wondering if you’d ever actually use the keyboard on an iPad case. I think it would be cool to use it like a laptop, but I’ve heard the keyboard can be quite low quality on the cases that aren’t more than 100 dollars. Btw If you have any case suggestions please comment them

r/ipad on Reddit: Question about ESR Rebound iPad Air 13 (M2) keyboard case
January 23, 2025 -

Last August, I bought an iPad Air 13 (M2) and an ESR Rebound Magnetic Keyboard Case to go with it. Initially, I used the keyboard case sparingly, but I'm pretty sure everything worked right. Lately, I've been getting into using Screens 5 to remote in to my home systems when away. In using Mac OS through screen sharing, I'm now running into an issue with the keyboard case. Right click (secondary click) now doesn't seem to work at all with this keyboard case (thought it worked in the beginning).

I've turned on two finger secondary click in iPad OS 18.3.1, but it never works with the keyboard case (in Screens, trying to right click in other iPad apps, in SpringBoard trying to right click on an app icon). The same actions work correctly with my Magic Mouse.

Does right click from the trackpad work for other people with this keyboard case?

The keyboard case works well enough other than this. I'd prefer getting rid of bluetooth and using the Magic Keyboard, but I had been holding out for a new one, but now realized they improved some things and made it worse in others (only comes in white, no backlit keys, and still ridiculously expensive for what it is). I could've accepted the last issue, but with the first 2 I'm rethinking my plan. I've sent a message to ESR support as I should have a 24 month warranty, but I haven't heard anything back yet. So, I thought I'd reach out here to see if others used this keyboard case.

I should mention that at least some multitouch gestures work, so it is detecting >1 touch at a time, but I can't find any solid info on right click. I have tried resetting it by holding down the C R & L keys per the manual.

Thanks!
