r/ipad on Reddit: Best Magic Keyboard Compatible Case

Hello all.

I've just gotten my first iPad, the iPad Pro 12.9 6th Gen. I got the Magic Keyboard to go along with it.

I have been looking at the Magic Keyboard compatible cases, as I would like something to give me a bit more grip, and some protection for when I don't want to use the Keyboard.

So far I have run across two cases, but have not seen many others. The two I've seen are the Pitaka MagEZ cases, and the Moft Snapcase. I love the look of the Pitaka, especially since I have a carbon fiber theme going with my Apple stuff, but it lacks the pencil retention of the Moft case.

Are there any others out there that are recommended, or is it basically limited at these two?

I'm also looking at getting a Paperlike screen protector. Is it ACTUALLY better than the cheaper alternatives?

Thanks!

Hey, yes, there are more than just the two cases you mentioned. Magez Case 2 by Pitaka SwitchEasy CoverBuddy MOFT Snap Case Satechi Case Spigen Thin Fit Pro STM Dux Shell Magic Folio (best for protection) Halflyer Case MagEasy CitiCover I have published article about these cases, you can see the pictures, prices, compatibility and features of these cases at Wolfoftablet website. Check Here. These are the best options to choose from. They all have the same function, but some do have an apple pencil holder, and some don't. (I personally prefer the ones without the holder) They come in different colors, and they are made from different materials. If you are looking for an iPad Pro case that works with Magic Keyboard, make sure that it has the smart connectors and that 3 sides of the iPad are covered, otherwise it won't work with Magic Keyboard, or you just won't be able to close it while the case is on. There are some other brands on Amazon and other e-commerce sites claiming that they work with Magic Keyboard, but they don't, so make sure they have smart connectors otherwise your keyboard won't work when you are using the case in tandem with the Magic Keyboard. I bought the MagEz case 2, works great. I have it in black and white(they had a discount on that deal), and I also recommend getting an iPad magnetic stand with it. It costs about $50, but it's worth it since the case has magnets at the back. Perfect when you want to play some games or watch a movie on an iPad.

Revisiting this. I loved the Pitaka MagEZ case for my iPad Air 4. It was perfect! I just upgraded to the iPad Air 13” (M2) and Pitaka says that they don’t have plans on making a case for this iPad. Any ideas for a Magic Keyboard compatible case for this iPad? (The 12.9” pro cases have different button cutouts…) Also, why isn’t this in higher demand? It seems like a no brainer! I’m shocked that Apple doesn’t have their own back case compatible with the Magic Keyboard!

Hi all. Hope this message finds you well. I recently bought myself a 256 GB iPad Pro 13 inch, and an Apple Magic Keyboard to go along with it. My biggest issue with it was the lack of protection it gets on the sides, but it has been brought to my attention that some cases are compatible with the Magic Keyboard. I’ve seen a couple of them, namely the Pitaka, (https://www.ipitaka.com/products/magez-case-2-for-ipad?variant=41932828934214), which some reviews say doesn’t close all the way, a big issue for me, this one by Mageasy (https://mageasy.us/collections/ipad-case-compatible-with-magic-keyboard/products/coverbuddy-magnetic-ipad-case-with-graphene), this one by Moft (https://www.moft.us/products/snap-ipad-case-new?variant=39697403347031) and finally, this one I found on Amazon that seems to have good reviews (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHGN3FGG?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1). I really want one that closes and latches properly, and I know some of them have an unprotected side because of the latch of the keyboard, and that’s way less of an issue. Anyways, just curious to see if anybody here has had any experience with the ones I put above, or if there’s another one you use that you would recommend. Price is not an issue and I just really want to protect my iPad as best I can when I’m using the Magic Keyboard. Any information is welcome. Thanks all.

Was considering getting cases, and of course I came to look into the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro M4. It looks nice, but I’m not sure it’s as practical for the smaller model. But I also did find that it removed from the case quite easily, which did pique my interest.

My initial inclination is towards a Zugu case.

I just want to know how practical it is to switch between cases. And of course, whether or not the extra bulk in having two has been worth it for some people.

I have an M4 11 inch Pro and I have an ESR Shift Case. The Case is awesome but I recently got a Magic Keyboard and propping the iPad in an out of the case wasn’t ideal, so I got a Smart Folio instead because it’s easier to switch between the two. I’m thinking about getting a Zugu case because they finally released them but would it be worth it if I’m going to be switching back and forth between the keyboard? I still want to be able to use the iPad as a tablet. Or should I just return the keyboard, keep it in a safe case and use my MacBook to type everything? What accessories are y’all rocking with your iPads?

I really love the magic keyboard but it leaves my shiny new iPad a bit unprotected, I have skimmed amazon for a while and haven't found a case that can stay on the iPad and fit in the magic keyboard (allowing it to be open and closed without removing it) does anyone have any?

Clarification: I mean something like this but for the 2024 M4 13 inch iPad Pro

I bought an m4 ipad pro 13" and the Magic Keyboard recently and the combo is an absolute beauty. Now I'm on the hunt for an ipad case that is compatible with the MKB, but I can't seem to find one that definitively allows the keyboard to close fully/"flush" with the case still on the ipad. I've read through several threads, amazon reviews, and youtube videos/comments sections, and there always seems to be a split between people who say that certain cases do allow the magic keyboard to close completely and some who say it doesn't.

Here are some of the cases I've looked at:

  1. Pitaka MagEz Case 2 - bunch of people showing pictures of the MKB not closing fully

  2. Spigen enzo aramid - seems to be better than the Pitaka one but still some people saying it doesn't close flush while others say it does

  3. Switcheasy coverbuddy lite (on amazon) - seems to be the best in terms of allowing the MKB to close fully, but some are still saying it doesn't; also a lot of comments about it being flimsy and the pins falling off

I alternate between using my ipad with the MKB and taking notes with the Apple Pencil with the ipad on my ESR case (which I love). I'm also planning on using the Moft Snap Tablet Stand to help when using the ipad with the Apple Pencil in landscape mode.

I've seen a few threads on this but they're all months old with no definitive answers. Is there anyone who can give me recommendations for to do/buy in this situation?

Update: The Switcheasy coverbuddy does not allow the MKB to close fully. I'll be trying the spigen one next.

Recently bought and 13” m4 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and I was looking into I could use whenever I’m not using the keyboard (I don’t like using the iPad bare when it’s off the keyboard) so I was looking into cases that aren’t much of a hassle to transfer. I usually use my iPad w/ MKB on the desk when I’m typing/studying but I want to have a case I can use when I am not doing those.

Looked into ESR Shift, Spigen, Zugu, etc but while they are good cases, I wanted one that I can transfer my iPad to my keyboard back with ease.

I’m looking at cases with a balance of protection and functionality.

Btw, I’m not looking into buying Apple Care for those will suggest it 😄

April 28, 2024 - The case has elements on it that I believe function as pass-throughs for the Smart Connectors, so data and charging works when the case is on the iPad and connected to the keyboard. https://satechi.net/products/vegan-leather-magnetic-case-for-ipad-pro · Sadly it seems like they're not planning on updating this product for this current generation of iPad Pros.

As the title states, is there a case that will be compatible with the Magic Keyboard? I like to pull my iPad off and walk around at times or to sit without the keyboard but no case makes me nervous. Sure I could have a non compatible case to slap on, but that’s more to carry. This is my first Magic Keyboard and experience without a case.

I love the magic keyboard but it is extremely limited and only made for desktop style typing. And once you take the iPad off, it's just a slab of glass that's extremely awkward to handle for drawing or writing with apple pencil.

The ideal would be a case like the smart folio or the Logitech combo case that's compatible with the magic keyboard, so that I can get a little bit of lift when using it and be able to grip it more easily. But I haven't been able to find anything like that. I'm hoping maybe there IS something out there that's flown under the radar.

Why don't I just use the Logitech case? I HATE the amount of space it takes up when typing and it really sucks for holding in your lap. I just like the case with the stand, but not the keyboard form factor at all.

I recently decided to get the M4 and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for MK compatible cases. Though I will be using the iPad for laptop type work a lot I will also be using it extensively for notetaking, so I was hoping that there would be a minimal case that can attach to the MK and detach when I want to lie the iPad flat and write. I’ve done some digging around and pitaka has come up some but I’ve also heard some mixed opinions on it. Thanks for the help.

I recently got the 13 inch a pad pro and the Magic Keyboard with it. I find myself going back and forth between typing and handwriting a lot. Is there a case that can stay on the iPad while on the keyboard which makes swapping between the two positions easily?

I just got the mk and have (like many others) begun to worry about the lack of protection. And after seeing all these reddit posts and online reviews, is it safe to say that there might just never be a case that will allow the mk to fully close??? if there’s anyone whos got a case that allows the mk to close fully (vertically, horizontally, anything dude), please let me know.

I use my M4 pro for note taking with the Apple Pencil, and it kills me that the iPad is naked when I pull it off the Magic Keyboard to take notes. Right now, I carry the folio and transfer my iPad every time I take it off the keyboard. Anyone have a good solution? I see some cases, but lots of reviews that the keyboard won’t close. This is the biggest pain point for me and as much as I love magic keyboard, it has me not wanting to use it because I take notes on this thing daily with the pencil.
