r/mobilerepair on Reddit: Upgrading iPhone Storage from 64GB to 256GB - Anyone with Experience?
June 22, 2023 -

Hey fellow Redditors,

I've been seeing that in China, there are repair shops offering the service of upgrading iPhone XR storage from 64GB to 256GB for around 60 USD. This sounds like an incredible deal considering the significant storage boost. I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this service or knows about the feasibility of doing it yourself?

I'm especially curious about whether there are any sequences or steps that need to be followed for a successful upgrade. Are there any risks involved that I should be aware of? I'd love to hear from anyone who has gone through this process or knows someone who has.

Your insights and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experiences. 📱✨

11 Ways to Upgrade iPhone Storage (Software, Cloud and Hardware)
February 27, 2025 - Apple doesn’t offer a way to do this officially, but some repair shops and tech-savvy users have found ways to swap out the internal storage chip for a larger one. Technically, it’s possible—but it’s not something the average person should attempt. The process involves micro-soldering, flashing new firmware. Even with the right tools, one mistake could brick your iPhone. Plus, Apple doesn’t support these upgrades, so you’d be on your own if anything goes wrong.
