Still using my iPhone 11 from 2019. I need to move up to an unlimited plan and currently Verizon is offering $1000 off on the iPhone 16 pro max with a trade in and a plan change. I’d like to wait a few months and see what the iPhone 17 pro max looks like but I don’t want to pass on a good deal if I may have to pay a lot more later. Anyone know how long Verizon will offer these kind of deals to trade in the iPhone 11? I will be upgrading my plan simultaneously.
If you traded in you iphone 11 to get the new iPhone, how much did Verizon estimate your trade in value? Mine was estimated at $800 through all the purchase steps on the app, until the last step before submitting my order and it dropped to $700 and I feel played by Verizon.

Currently have an iPhone 11 I’ve had since 2019 and feel like it could last me another few months. Had a couple friends upgrade from 11 to 15 for nothing, so I checked my trade in value and saw it was $830. Anyone know if value will drop like crazy next year and I should just upgrade now? trying not to pay more than I need to lol
I have an iPhone 11 64gb that really has nothing wrong with it and Verizon will allow me to trade in for the iPhone 15 at no cost (other than upgrade fee).
I am trying to see if there is any way to know that I could still get this deal with iPhone 16 next year? I know eventually the iPhone 11 will be old enough that Verizon won't do an even trade in for the newest iPhone -- just trying to confirm if there is any way to know when that might happen?
Hey everyone! So I’ve had my iPhone 11 Pro Max since 2020 and I want to upgrade to the iPhone 17 pro max. Besides the battery capacity being at 76% on my current phone everything else is completely fine. Despite this when checking the trade in value online it was about 400 bucks, meaning I would have to pay $830 out of pocket for the iPhone 17 pro max instead of the current retail price which I believe is around $1200.
I’ve seen some people get a substantially higher tree in value for their phone even recently, so I’m wondering how I can maximize my phones value. I’m thinking about getting it assessed in person at the Verizon store instead of online but I’m unsure if that would change anything. Does anyone have any ideas how to get a higher trade in value?
Hi. I recently sent in a great-condition iPhone 11 Pro to Verizon as a trade-in after buying a 15 Pro model. The estimated trade-in value was supposed to be $830. Although a preliminary email that I received from Verizon (after phone was received by them but not yet assessed) says that the estimated trade-in value is $160. Has anyone had such discrepancies in their trade-in's value? Thanks
Just curious if anyone has done the trade in process and switched to the unlimited ultimate plan. I was in the process of completing it online and it was saying they would give you $1000 credit for your current iPhone and then something popped up talking about the appraised value. I’m not willing to agree to changing my plan and getting a new phone if they are going to come back and say yeah your phone appraised at $200 you owe us $800 or we can add it to your bill. Is that basically how it works or does every iPhone get the $1000?
Verizon is advertising a deal where you can get up to $1,000 off a new iPhone (like the 16 Pro) when you trade in your old phone — sounds amazing, right? I almost did it, but when I ran the numbers, it turned out to be a lot less valuable than it seems.
Here’s how it actually plays out: • I currently have an iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB, which has a resale value of around $600 in excellent condition (not $700–$850 like I previously thought — sorry for the overestimate). • I’m on Verizon’s Unlimited plan with a $15/month BYOD (bring your own device) discount, and my total bill is $195/month. • If I do the trade-in: • Verizon removes my $15/month BYOD discount • They charge me $2.77/month for the new phone (after applying the $1,000 trade-in credit over 36 months) • My new monthly bill becomes $212.77
That’s a $17.77/month increase Over 36 months = $639.72 extra paid over time
So I’m “saving” $1,000 on the iPhone… but paying $640 more on my bill, which is basically just another way of financing the phone over 3 years.
And I’m giving up a phone worth $600 to do it.
$640 ÷ 36 months = $17.77/month — almost exactly what it would cost to finance the iPhone yourself without losing your BYOD discount or trade-in device.
Bottom line: Verizon’s “$1,000 off” is just a shell game: • They give you $1,000 in bill credits • But quietly raise your monthly bill in ways that offset most of it • And you lose flexibility (e.g., switching carriers = lose remaining credits)
If you sell your phone and buy a new one directly from Apple, you keep more value, avoid hidden bill increases, and don’t get locked into a 3-year commitment.
Don’t fall for the fine-print math — it’s not a “free iPhone.” It’s a clever upsell wrapped in shiny marketing.
Hi all, looking to trade in the iPhone 14s on our plan for a lineup of 3 iPhone 17s. We did this 3 years ago - traded in our 11s or whatever we had at the time for 14s, each line on our plan got a large enough trade in credit paid out over 36 months that the phone costs were essentially covered so long as we stayed.
Looks like there’s a similar promotion going - we can get $1100 ish per phone and that’ll mostly cover whatever variation of 17 we choose to get and of course the credit will be spread out over 2-3 years to lock us in, yada yada.
Is there a most advantageous way to go about this, though? We own our 14s now outright. But I’m not gonna be able to sell them for $1100 each - so the trade in credit is very generous in my mind.
If I buy the phones through Apple I can still do the Verizon trade in but finance the monthly fee on the Apple Card (it seems) and apply whatever monthly fee isn’t covered by the trade in credit to my Apple Card and get 3% cash back a month and 0% APR for the loan period, it appears I can also get an account discount each month on the lines from Verizon autopay for the data plan. Seems like the best of both worlds - autopay for the Verizon plan but finance the phone with Apple while still getting a full Verizon trade in credit?
I’m feeling confused about my options and could use some advice. Thanks.
Okay so I just got off a 3 HOUR call with Verizon and I'm still shaking but I won, so here's what happened.
I'm looking at upgrading to the iPhone 17 in the Verizon app. It clearly says "Save $600 with trade-in" on my Unlimited Welcome plan. Not "up to $600." Just $600. I screenshotted it on my phone AND my laptop because I've dealt with this garbage before.
Get to checkout and boom - it drops to $300. No warning, no explanation, just... different now.
So I call them. First rep gives me the whole "oh it's UP TO $600 depending on your model."
Me: "Cool, show me where it says that."
Rep: "..."
Literally could not show me. Transferred - next rep, same thing. Asked for a supervisor - same BS. Got an even higher up technical supervisor - more of the same. I asked all four reps I talked to - WHERE does it say "up to"? Where's the fine print? The terms? ANYTHING that says my iPhone 13 only gets $300?
They just kept repeating the same script like robots. "Your model qualifies for $300, sir. Or you can get $830 off if you upgrade your plan." Okay but WHY and WHERE does it say this. Show me the offer details that say that. They could for the $830 offer. They couldn't for the $600 offer because the text doesn't exist.
I even screen-shared my account with one of the supervisors. Made them READ the offer out loud to me. "Save $600 with trade-in." That's it. No asterisks, no footnotes, nothing. He tried the "oh sir it's up to $600" BS, and I politely asked him to show me on my screen where it says that. It doesn't. Even he admitted it.
After THREE HOURS (I'm not exaggerating), the last guy - finally just said "yeah that's a glitch in the system, we can see the $600 offer too."
He documented everything and sent me a text confirming they'll honor it. $300 automatically + another $300 manually after they get my phone. I screenshotted that text immediately because I don't trust this won't "disappear" later. Screenshotted the offer with timestamps, too.
They're counting on you to give up. They will repeat the same lines over and over hoping you'll just accept it and hang up. Don't.
If this happens to you:
Screenshot EVERYTHING before you click checkout
Don't let them give you explanations - demand proof. "Show me where it says that in writing."
They legally can't advertise one thing and give you another (it's literally illegal under the FTC Act, and every state has laws against false advertising - I'm in Wisconsin so I've got Wis. Stat. § 100.18 but google yours)
Get names, case numbers, and make them send written confirmation
If they refuse, file a complaint with your state consumer protection agency and the FTC
You can't just roll over when they say "we can't honor that." Make them prove it. Because 9 times out of 10 they can't, and they're hoping you don't know that.
TL;DR: Verizon app showed $600 trade-in, tried to only give me $300, couldn't show me ANY proof it was supposed to be less, and after 3 hours of me refusing to hang up they admitted it was a glitch and agreed to the full $600. I have receipts.
Don't let them outlast you.
I have been with Verizon for over 15 years. I have an iPhone 11 (regular version) that’s paid off. My monthly plan at Verizon is about $115/month, unlimited data (Internet and texting) it’s the 5G Play More Plan. Would be fine with a comparable or better plan if it’s similar cost or less.
Verizon has its own upgrade offer, but I think I’d like to switch carriers. Not sure if T-Mobile or AT&T is better. I need a new phone as well, ideally the new iPhone 17.
If I go through T-Mobile, what’s the best deal I could do? And would the new phone be carrier locked? Not sure if I should do T-Mobile or AT&T or something through Costco.
I tried posting a pic but I’m unable.. On Apple’s site, it looks like they’re doing a promo with carriers to give trade-ins an insane credit for their phone… am I reading it right?
If you were to select an iPhone 7 Plus as your trade in, it’s saying $1000 credit…. That can’t be right can it?
I have an iPhone 11 64GB (condition: Good) that I want to trade-in. I just went through 3 scenarios online and got 3 different trade-in values for the same iPhone at checkout.
Purchasing an iPhone 14 Pro to upgrade a line that is currently an iPhone 7. Trade-in value for my phone is $220.
Purchasing an iPhone 13 mini to upgrade a line that is currently an iPhone 7. Trade-in value for my phone is $300.
Purchasing an iPhone 14 Pro to upgrade a line that is currently an iPhone 11. Trade-in value for my phone is $440
Is this normal? If Verizon is valuing my phone at $440 in the 3rd scenario, then why is the exact same phone valued at half the price in the 1st scenario? Why is the value of my trade-in phone impacted by what phone I am buying/replacing?
I took a screenshot of their website for each scenario but not able to post them to this sub.
If I recall correctly, Apple used to offer $800 for the highest-tier iPhones of the previous year. Last year, they offered $800 for trading in an iPhone 14 Pro Max. This year, it seems that the max is $650 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. All the while Verizon is literally offering $1000 for any phone in any condition.
Am I correct here?
Update: thanks u/nickstarr for sharing your info from last year - confirmed that it was the same $650 for the 14PM. Thanks all.
I have iPhone 14 Pro on Verizon, one payment away from fully paid off. I want to get the $1,000 off on iPhone 17 Pro w/ 36 month commitment to Unlimited Ultimate. Swappa listings seem to indicate I could get ~$500 for the iPhone 14 Pro selling it as an individual.
When looking at Verizon upgrade deals on apple.com, it says phones as old as Google Pixel 6 in any condition will be accepted for the $1,000 off offer. A Google Pixel 6 can be purchased on Swappa for $129, so it would seem to make sense to buy a Pixel 6, trade it in immediately and pocket the ~$370 difference.
There is no language on apple.com that I can find stating the trade in phone has to be previously active with Verizon. However, on Verizon's site there is this: "For upgrades, trade-in phone must be active on account for 60 days prior to new device purchase."
Does this requirement not apply to upgrades done through apple.com?
